2nd Assistant Superintendent

Cornerstone Club is a private golf club situated atop the Uncompahgre Plateau outside of Montrose, Colorado, at an elevation of just over 9,000ft. A Greg Norman designed course, Cornerstone boasts panoramic view of the Grand Mesa to the north, the Cimmaron Range to the east, and the San Juan Mountains to the south. At its opening in 2008, Cornerstone was rated #1 "Best New Private Club" by Golf Magazine and #2 "Best New Private Club" by Golfweek. The course is comprised of bentgrass greens, tees, and approaches, bluegrass fairways and rough, and fescue native areas.

 

The Second Assistant Golf Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and Director.  This position helps direct and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required.  

  • Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, clubhouse grounds, and landscape areas. 
  • Supervises the employees and the use of equipment.
  • Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment. 
  • Conducts pesticide/fertilizer applications and or operates and calibrates pesticide/fertilizer application equipment. 
  • Participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and control system.
  • Assists in personnel management, employee safety and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation. 
  • Oversees the completion of work assignments by crew and assists with field decisions regarding job procedures, work standards and equipment use and work methods.
  • Assists in maintaining club grounds including environmentally sensitive areas in and around the golf course.
  • Performs property snow removal, grooming and other club assistance as directed by Superintendent.

Educational Requirements

 2-4-year degree or certificate in turf management or related field.

Experience Requirements

  • Requires working knowledge of the management and maintenance of golf course tees, greens, and fairways.  The seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs, and trees.  Pest control methods and materials, drainage control methods, and irrigation system control, including but not limited to wells, pumps, controllers, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safe use, mixing and application of chemicals and commercial products.
  • Requires ability to supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment.  Prepare clear and concise reports, and to maintain effective employee and member relations.
  • Requires valid driver’s license.
  • Skills in supervising, training, monitoring and motivating personnel.

Special Requirements

Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach different outlets and other departments of the Resort on a timely basis. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
