GOLF COURSE MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP
Pete Dye Scholarship Information:
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Ford Field and River Club is pleased to offer the Pete Dye Agronomic Scholarship and Internship program to rising young professionals from leading universities specializing in golf course management. The program is named after legendary golf course architect Pete Dye, who designed the award- winning course at The Ford Field and River Club.
The program has been met with enthusiastic support from the members of the Club and the university programs around the country. Students are selected based on telephone interviews conducted by the Golf Maintenance Department and if selected, receive up to
$4,000 scholarship to be used for educational expenses, rewarded at the completion of the program. $18/hour wages plus time and a half for OT, free housing on site at Ford, uniforms, golfing privileges, in-shore fishing privileges and every other weekend off makes The Ford Field and River Club a great opportunity.
As soon as the Student Superintendents arrive, the team at Ford Field and River Club starts by identifying areas that the specific individual needs to enhance to become a more viable Assistant Superintendent Candidate for potential employers after graduation.
Educational Requirements
Turf grass management or similar program.
Experience Requirements
Primary areas of Student Superintendent enrichment and growth include:
1. Spray programs- comprehensive experience in the development of spray programs, applying, calculating and inventory management. Learn to operate the latest GPS John Deere Fairway sprayers with our state-of-the- art equipment package.
2. Putting Green Management- comprehensive experience in hand watering, vertical mowing, aeration, Dry-Ject process, hydrojecting, speed management, Topdressing programs and an introduction to the grass reading program.
3. Fairway Management: comprehensive experience in fairway aeration, Radical Topdressing Programs, Ryegrass transitional program, Off-type bermudagrass eradication program, and more. 4. Rough Management: comprehensive experience in bermudagrass scalping procedures and false node management.
5. Tee Management: experience in Fraze mowing, aeration, radical topdressing program and tee top alignment procedures.
6. Equipment Fleet: be exposed to and spend time with our equipment manager and state of the art equipment fleet.
7. Irrigation Management: learn to operate state-of-the-art Irrigation System equipped with the latest Toro Lynx Software package, in-ground Turf Guard Soil Sensors and new HDPE irrigation pipe and fittings.
8. Drainage: experience seepage drainage installation and learn how firm and fast is created.
9. Life-Work Balance: surround yourself with professionals working in their profession at the highest level while maintaining healthy lives outside of work.
The capstone of the internship program takes place when each Student Superintendent is responsible for the management of the golf maintenance crew during their last week of employment, as the acting Assistant Superintendent.
