Equipment/Shop Manager
John's Island Club, home to three championship 18-hole golf courses, is seeking an experienced Golf Course Head Mechanic to help lead our equipment maintenance operations. In this role, you will inspect, diagnose, repair and maintain a range of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment critical to the upkeep of our golf courses. You’ll supervise and train assistant equipment technicians, instill proper safety practices, and work hands-on to troubleshoot mechanical and maintenance issues. You have a role in teaching all golf course maintenance staff the proper and safe operation of equipment.
We are looking for someone with 5+ years of experience as an Assistant Equipment Technician or Head Mechanic, and a deep understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. Experience with mower grinding and sharpening, welding, fabrication, and repairing transmissions, fuel systems, and hydraulic components is essential. This hands-on role requires extensive physical activity, including lifting up to 50 lbs, working in varying outdoor conditions, and handling oils, chemicals, and heavy machinery. Educational Requirements
Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. Company drivers who are Florida residents must obtain a valid Florida license within 30 days of establishing residency to drive on Florida roads.
Experience Requirements
- Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and schedule appropriate maintenance work.
- Knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and equipment repair tools.
- Knowledge and understanding of the latest technology in the care and operation of maintenance equipment.
- 5 years’ experience as an Assistant Equipment Technician and/or Head Mechanic preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot quality of cut issues, electrical, and hydraulic systems as needed.
- Have basic understanding of the game of golf and the effects turf equipment have on course playability.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
