Assistant-in-Training

Full-time

The Assistant in Training will play a key role in maintaining and caring for the golf course and grounds. Working closely with the Director of Golf Courses and Grounds, Superintendents, and Assistant Superintendents, this is a transitional role designed for professional growth in the golf course industry.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for course setup (hole locations, tee markers, trash removal, and detail work).
  • Assist in applying herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and other chemicals.
  • Apply fertilizers using various application equipment.
  • Handle irrigation system repairs and maintenance.
  • Implement daily water requirements for both warm and cool-season grasses.
  • Assist with routine maintenance tasks, such as walk mowing, bunker work, and trimming.
  • Actively pursue professional growth by engaging in industry seminars, workshops, and training.

Educational Requirements

Completed or in the process of obtaining a degree/certificate in turf management or a related field.

Experience Requirements

  • Knowledge of chemical/fertilizer applications and soil conditioners.
  • Ability to understand business and technical documents, regulations, and reports.
  • Ability to operate mowers, carts, and heavy equipment.
  • Must be able to obtain a CA state pesticide applicator’s license.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Basic computer skills.

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to lift heavy items and perform manual labor.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions, including sun and rain.
  • Requires flexibility to work beyond a 40-hour week, including holidays and tournament days.
  • Involves physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, and repetitive movements.
  • Varying work schedules may be required, based on the needs of the club.
  • The role supports creating a positive experience for club members while ensuring a good work environment for staff.
