2nd Assistant Superintendent
Metropolis Country Club was established in 1922. The original 18 hole golf course, designed by Herbert Strong, was later expanded when the noted golf architect A. W. Tillinghast redesigned the course. In conjunction with Forse design, the club completed a large scale restoration project (2014-2020), returning the course to its original design intent. Over the last 3 years the infrastructure of our operation has all been upgraded, a new irrigation system and pumphouse project was completed in 2023 and we are currently wrapping up the construction of a new, state of the art, turf care maintenance facility. The club is currently constructing an entirely new front entrance with upgraded utilities, while progressing through planning for a new parking lot and employee house project, scheduled to begin this year. This position offers a wealth of opportunity, not only in high profile turf care, but also project and construction management.
Educational Requirements
Formal turf education is preferred but not essential, prior experience will be considered.
Experience Requirements
The position is ideal for a candidate who is looking to move into a management role. They will be working closely with the Superintendent and fellow Assistants in all aspects of golf course management. The successful candidate must be self motivated, have a strong work ethic and the ultimate goal of becoming a golf course superintendent. The role will consist of, but not limited to, small crew management, project management, irrigation repair, hand watering and chemical/fertilizer calibration and application. A strong emphasis is placed on team moral and work life balance.
