Golf Course Superintendent
Beowulf is seeking an experienced turfgrass professional to lead the maintenance operation of its 18-hole golf course in Minot ND.
After massive flooding destroyed the old Minot Country Club in 2011, the club was moved to a new location in the coulees south of Minot. It Reopened in 2015 as Minot Country Club. A new ownership group has purchased the club and has rebranded it as Beowulf, bringing much needed stability and leadership to the operation.
Beowulf is a semiprivate golf course designed by Jim Engh. The club features an 18-hole golf course, and a modern clubhouse with a high-end restaurant which is open to the public. The course has received a decent amount of positive press from various golf media and is included on several “best” lists. The golf course features a PVC RainBird IC irrigation system with Watertronics Pump Station, Foley Grinders, as well as a modern Toro equipment fleet. The grassing plan consists of T-1 bentgrass greens (0.00% poa) on California Construction and low mow bluegrass/CSI Rye roughs and fairways. There are only 3 trees in play on the golf course.
Minot is a great Mid-western city of 50,000 that has enjoyed substantial growth and improvements during the Bakken Oil Boom. Candidates who enjoy hunting, fishing, lake life, and hockey will be well suited to life in Minot. There is plenty of affordable housing, good schools, and plenty of opportunities for spouses to find employment.
Initial Search is being led by outgoing superintendent who is leaving on good terms for a new opportunity
Reporting
The golf course superintendent reports directly to the Owners. The ownership group consists of 3 majority owners with one member of the group handling most of the “golf course” functions. This is not an ultra-demanding or high-pressure ownership group; expectations are high but reasonable and the golf membership is very supportive and appreciative of maintenance efforts. It is a good group to work for.
Currently the course operates with a superintendent and a mechanic/jack of all trades assistant. Staffing consists of 10-14 seasonal employees with a mix of full time and part time. With an expected returning staff of 7-8 for the upcoming season which includes several veteran employees.
