Course Description
The Club at Wynstone is an exclusive 18- Hole privately owned country club. Opening in 1989, it weaves through the rolling hills, wetlands and mature oak stands of the property providing a memorable golf experience each and every time. Nicklaus' vision and respect for the natural topography of the land generated a championship golf course that is ranked as one of the "Best Courses in Illinois" by Golf Digest.
Characteristics of Nicklaus' strategic design elements are very prevalent, with elevated tees and large greens protected by deep bunkers. The golf course is visually stunning with dramatic elevation changes, large water features and expansive fairway and greenside bunkers. There are four sets of tees ranging from 5,946 to 7,162 yards.
Recent Renovations
- The greens were renovated with a blend of 007/Tyee bentgrass
- The fairways were renovated to Penn Eagle II bentgrass
- The fairway perimeters were planted with Kentucky bluegrass
- All tee boxes have been laser-graded to ensure firm/flat surfaces

Job Summary: The Club at Wynstone mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all golf course equipment and machinery. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of equipment, contributing to the overall success of the golf course.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Equipment Maintenance and Repair:
- Conduct routine maintenance on all golf course equipment, including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, and other specialized turf management machinery.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Keep detailed records of maintenance schedules, repairs, and inventory of spare parts.
2. Quality Assurance:
- Work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to ensure that all equipment meets high-quality standards for optimal performance.
- Sharpen reels, grind bedknives, and adjust cutting units to meet the highest quality.
- Ensure proper height of cut on all mowing equipment.
- Implement preventive maintenance programs to extend the lifespan of equipment.
- Grind reels as needed but a minimum of two times in-season and one time out-of-season.
- Check reel mowers after every mow. Examples: green, fairway, tee, and approach mowers.
3. Equipment Inspection:
· Conduct routine inspections to identify and address potential issues before they become major problems.
· Perform seasonal equipment check-ups to prepare for peak operating times.
· Daily course inspection of equipment on course. With an emphasis to insure quality and consistency of cut for each mower (Mowers will be inspected before completing the second hole of the day and fairway mowers checked as they start and halfway through the course.)
· On course inspections of new and recently adjusted equipment.
4. Equipment Inventory Management:
- Manage an organized inventory of spare parts, oils, and other necessary supplies.
- Collaborate with the Superintendent to assess equipment needs and make recommendations for new acquisitions or replacements.
5. Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols while performing maintenance tasks.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of equipment and machinery.
6. Training and Collaboration:
- Train other maintenance staff on basic equipment operation and maintenance procedures.
- Collaborate with the grounds crew to understand their equipment needs and address concerns promptly.
- Be constructive in conversations to improve the golf course, equipment and facilities. If we are staying the same we are falling behind.
- Treat all employees with respect
In-Season Responsibilities:
· Prioritize quick turnaround on equipment repairs to minimize disruptions during peak golf season.
- Provide on-call support for emergency equipment issues during high-traffic periods.
- Work closely with the Superintendent to coordinate maintenance schedules with the overall course maintenance plan.
Out-of-Season Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive equipment inspections and perform major overhauls as needed during the off-season.
- Detail equipment
- Coordinate or complete facility maintenance tasks as required.
- Use the off-season to organize the maintenance facility and prepare for the upcoming season.
- Help plow snow around shop
Salary Range and Benefits
$80,000- $95,000: D.O.E.
