Equipment/Shop Manager
POSITION SUMMARY The Equipment Manager oversees a comprehensive preventative maintenance program according to Mountain Lake’s goals, policies and procedures. This position includes the repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment service. The Equipment Manager properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to his reports, and schedules and directs the work assignments of the Assistant Mechanic. The Equipment Manager places safety as top priority and is responsible maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Inspects, diagnoses and repairs various golf maintenance equipment, park service equipment and utility vehicles for Food & Beverage and Residential Services prior to failure or loss of efficiency and productivity; also, Member carts as needed. Assists in training of maintenance crew on pre-operation walk around, proper cleaning of and safe operation of the equipment. Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work and communicates if it might cause a conflict. Maintains a running monthly balance of equipment maintenance expense and communicates when expenses might exceed budget. Keeps records of equipment maintenance repairs and expenses and reports weekly. Maintain parts and equipment inventory to include hours updated monthly. Observe equipment operation and performance, make emergency repairs in field if necessary. Oversee and responsible for shop safety, maintenance, organization and cleanliness. Report any concerns immediately to supervisors. If instructed, serves as supervisor in the absence of Assistant Superintendent. Communicates successes, concerns, observations, problems and mistakes in a timely manner. Perform other duties as assigned by management. REQUIRED COMPENTENCIES / SKILLS Working knowledge of the light and heavy equipment used in golf maintenance. Skilled in the use of equipment repair tools and various types of common repairs. Knowledge of the game of golf and understanding of how conditions affect the golfer and playability. Must maintain positive effective and professional employee relations. Ability to follow oral and written directions. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. Must have extensive knowledge of small engine, diesel, hydraulics and budgeting. Minimum of one (1) or more years in golf course maintenance and country club experience. Possession of a valid driver's license; commercial driver license preferred. Private Club experience preferred. Knowledgeable and able to perform 5-star service. MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE Equipment Manager will be evaluated and tested at various times throughout the season based upon their knowledge, basic skills, team attitude and Member recognition. Equipment Manager will be given a 90-day review and an annual review (once a year). Equipment Manager will be reviewed based on job performance, attendance, dependability, cooperation with co-workers, initiative on the job, and the quality and quantity of their work. Exposure to the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Exposure to various types of Florida weather conditions including: sunshine, heat, and rain. Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma or GE
- Minimum 2 years of mechanical experience
Experience Requirements
- At least 1–2 years of hands-on mechanical experience, preferably with golf course or turf equipment
- Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Exposure to reel grinding or sharpening procedures is preferred
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and record-keeping
- Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools in a safe manner
- Comfort working both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical certifications are a plus)
