Dove Mountain Golf Club is seeking an experienced, visionary Golf Course Superintendent to lead our agronomic operations and help shape the next era of our iconic 27-hole facility in the high Sonoran Desert.

This is a rare opportunity to join one of Arizona’s most scenic and storied clubs at a pivotal moment of transformation. With one nine already fully renovated, and two more scheduled for renovation in the near future, we’re looking for a superintendent who thrives in high-level planning, team leadership, and executing championship-level course conditions.

Superintendent

The Golf Club at Dove Mountain

Overview:   Reporting to the Director of Agronomy, this position assists with the operation of the golf course and maintenance activities including, but not limited to: turf grass/plant material maintenance programs, property/asset management, personnel management, budget/forecasting, financial management, member relations, scheduling/maintenance of irrigation systems, pesticide applications, related record keeping and compliance of regulatory issues. The Superintendent works to create an environment where staff are involved and enthusiastic, with open communications and respect for themselves, members, guests and the property.

                                                                                                             Renovations

The Golf Club at Dove Mountain began an extensive renovation of all three 9-hole golf courses in May 2023, with the completion of 9 holes and plans to complete the next 18 starting in 2026. This renovation will include-

·      Relocating, softening and completely rebuilding greens and greens complexes followed up by seeding and grow in of 007 bentgrass

·      New irrigation of greens and green surrounds

·      Complete bunker renovation using premium liner and sand with the addition of new irrigation on bunker slopes and surrounds

·      Adding of forward tees and converting areas of desert vegetation to turfgrass and adding irrigation as needed

·      New Watertronix pump stations were installed in April 2023

 

Responsibilities:

     Responsible for all phases of Golf Course Maintenance and Agronomic operations, cost control, and personnel.

     Works closely with, advises, and coordinates with the Director of Agronomy on any issues related to golf course maintenance.

     Directs and participates in the construction and maintenance of the grounds.

     Administers and enforces member / guest rules, regulations and policies for staff.

     Works closely with the Director of Agronomy to operate and facilitate maintenance in a fiscally responsible and professional manner.

     Assists with hiring and training staff including maintaining, training and performance documentation

     Ensures irrigation systems are operational, ensures repairs are made as well as irrigation duties are being performed to keep the courses up to standard

     Oversees and performs general maintenance including but not limited to: mowing, raking, blowing, mulching, sod work, aerification and set up

     Supervises and assigns duties to 20 or more employees daily

     Monitors labor expenses to budget

     Ensures employees are trained in safe work procedures and work is performed in a safe manner by providing technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff is working within OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.

     Assists with special projects and performs any other duties as assigned by management

 

Educational Requirements

 

     Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy (Turf) or 3 years of golf course experience, preferred

Experience Requirements

 

     Extensive experience overseeding warm season turf in southern Arizona

     Experience applying fertilizers and chemicals with boom and boomless type sprayers

     Irrigation experience, Toro Lynx central control preferred

     Supervisor experience preferred

Special Requirements

     Ability to follow written instructions

     Ability to operate general maintenance equipment

     Valid driver’s license

     Ability to hand dig in various climatic conditions (hot/cold temperatures)

     Ability to lift, push, pull a minimum of 50 pounds

     Ability to stand for long periods of time, withstand constant movement of extremities, bend at waist and perform repetitive hand, wrist and foot action, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and withstand prolonged exposure to sunlight and extreme temperatures and outside weather conditions (heat/cold, rain) for up to an eight-hour shift

     Must have excellent communication skills
