Assistant Superintendent
James River is a private Country Club opened in 1932. The club worked with golf course architect John LaFoy to complete a bunker renovation in the spring of 2019. Golf course is comprised of A4 bentgrass greens, celebration bermuda tees, fairways and roughs, and fine fescue in the tree lines. James River is maintained to the highest standards daily and has thus become popular for championship events including US Amateur qualifiers, Mid-Atlantic Golf Association Championships and VSGA championship events. The golf and grounds maintenance department is responsible for all grounds on the property in addition to the golf course. We are also the home of the country’s oldest golf museum. Golf and grounds maintenance budget is around $1.1M.
Candidate will be responsible for fertilizer and pesticide applications as well as supervision of the crew and ensuring that quality standards are achieved on a daily basis. Will work closely with the Superintendent to make agronomic decisions to provide both health and playablity of the course.
Experience Requirements
Qualified candidate will preferably have or be obtaining a degree in turf management. Will be able to obtain a VA pesticide applicator’s license within 90 days. Will have knowledge and appreciation for the game of golf. Looking for an individual with hands on experience in golf maintenance, someone with a great attitude and someone with a sense of responsibility. Candidate must be able to communicate with staff in both English and Spanish.
