ABOUT FALL LINE:
Fall Line currently has 48-holes of golf under design by the Australian golf architecture firm of Ogilvie, Cocking, and Mead (OCM) and includes a 10-hole short course and a “Himalayas” style putting complex, practice facilities, and instructional areas. The courses will combine elements of English heathland courses with the Australian sand belt architecture brought to the region by Alister McKenzie.
Over 50 acres of lakes (both natural and manmade), will be integrated into the design of the golf courses and Club activities. Hunting and gun sports will feature prominently in Fall Line’s member/guest experiences. Those experiences will begin with a world-class clay bird shooting facility that will be built in the next several months. Fall Line will also host guided hunts during hunting season. Guided hunts will focus on quail, deer, and turkey in season. Wild hog hunts will be offered year-round. The area is bisected by the Fall Line geological formation from which the club derives its name.
The Georgia Sandhills are upland, land-locked dune habitats with sandy soil and sloping terrain and are located within the Fall Line region, just below the transition zone between the Piedmont and Coastal Plain. This is the area where the ancient seashore was located over 65 million years ago. As the sea receded it left a series of sand dunes (now hills) ranging in height from 450 to 750 feet above sea level.
The Sandhills look a lot like sand dunes at the beach but with trees and other vegetation. They have a striking appearance with islands of exposed sand and sparse vegetation interspersed with tall pines and an open understory. Longleaf pine, turkey oak, and wiregrass are the most common vegetation. The area has abundant deer, turkey, quail, and other wild game. The sandy terrain (with sand up to 175 feet deep) together with 8–10-mile views from the property make the site ideal for creating golf courses that are classical in appearance and will offer firm and fast playability.
