Assistant Superintendent
Windham Golf Club is seeking a well-rounded, team-driven, Senior Assistant Superintendent to join its golf course maintenance team. The Assistant Superintendent plays a key role in golf course conditioning and property management daily. This person will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent, Equipment Manager, and other Assistant to plan and execute all maintenance tasks and projects.
Windham Golf Club is an 18-hole semi-private golf club located in the Catskill Mountain region of New York. The golf club is part of the expanding Windham Mountain Club. The membership amenities are vast; not only an 18-hole golf course, but we also possess a driving range, ski mountain, gym, spa and dining outlets. We are located 2.5 hours north of NYC and 45 minutes south of Albany.
The golf course is currently being evaluated for major infrastructure improvements in the coming years and is continuously utilizing innovative maintenance programs. The capital improvements and projects include a new irrigation system, new greens construction, bunker renovation, lengthening of certain holes, regressing playing surfaces and expanding the golf course onto newly bought land. The clubhouse is undergoing a complete renovation in the Winter 2025.
The equipment fleet currently is small but will be growing in the coming years. The maintenance facility is also in the planning stages of upgrades and expansions. This is an exciting time for an Assistant Superintendent to get hired on the ground floor and get extensive project planning, construction and grow-in experience. Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure course set up and daily operations meet course standards
- Assist in planning, scheduling and supervision of staff to ensure a quality product
- Manage plant protectant and fertilizer applications to all surfaces
- Train new employees in all aspects of golf course maintenance and safety
- Assist in scouting the golf course for disease/ pests and providing solutions for agronomic issues
- Perform irrigation repairs and maintenance
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
- Strong emphasis on creating a work/ life balance
Educational Requirements
- Degree or Certificate in Turf Management or related field
Experience Requirements
- 3-5 years’ in golf course management preferred
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal direction from the Golf Course Superintendent
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Must be highly motivated, goal-driven, and want to advance in the industry
