Palm Valley Golf Course is a 9-hole executive course, located in the heart of the golfing community of North Florida in Ponte Vedra. We are a family built and operated facility.  As superintendent, you will be working directly with the owner/general manager. Palm Valley is a 32-acre facility, with large driving range with 45,000sqft grass tee and 14 covered hitting bays with Toptracer, 10,000 sqft putting/chipping area, and 9-hole executive course with 1 acre of greens. Our clientele range for families/kids, retirees, and golfers looking for another round of golf after playing championship courses like TPC-Sawgrass. We are looking to expand our facility, with new projects lined up.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

The candidate will be involved in all aspects of golf course maintenance and work closely with existing team members and management.  The Assistant In Training (AIT) reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and Owner and must be willing to serve in the superintendent’s capacity during their absence.  Under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, the position  will direct and participate in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, cart paths, roughs, and native areas.  This position will assist the Golf Course Superintendent in managing all phases of golf course maintenance. 

· Develops, prepares, establishes, and maintains the entire golf course and clubhouse grounds. This includes the entrance and fence.

 · Ability to work independently to carry out written and verbal instructions

· Plans, schedules and monitors operations, which include manpower, equipment, and supply requirements for the department and maintains accountability for the cost, utilization, and performance of employees and equipment.

· Maintains required records for: man-hour usage, equipment maintenance, tool inventory, supply inventory, daily log, fertilizer, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, fuel usage, weather, water usage, and all records required by governmental authorities relevant to pesticide usage

· Ensures safety regulations, policies and procedures are followed.

· Ensures that departmental employees have a clean, organized, and safe working environment which meets all local, state and federal regulations and maintains adequate stock levels.

· Assists with the development and implementation of environmental programs consistent with International Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program Certification and meet departmental environmental goals.

· Selects, orients, trains, motivates and retains staff capable of meeting current and projected personnel needs; makes recommendations and decisions on various personnel matters such as salaries, performance reviews (both annual & semi-annual), and terminations. Special emphasis is placed on minimizing employee costs

· Works closely with Head PGA Pro and owner to prepare for any tournaments we host.

· When uniforms are adopted as protocol, maintains control of employee uniforms, ensuring that employees wear the appropriate uniform, that uniforms are kept in good condition, and are always readily available to employees.

· Works closely with the owner/Superintendent to interpret and implement departmental policies and procedures as established by Palm Valley Golf Course

· Required to wear personal protective clothing and/or use protective equipment to comply with established safety operating standards.

· Special projects or other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements

Candidate must either have completed a 2/4-year turf program, posses a degree in a related field, or have equivalent work experience deemed sufficient to fulfill the duties of the position.

Experience Requirements

  • 2 years minimum at a green grass facility
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain RUP and fertilizer applicator license within 90 days of hire.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have technical and working knowledge of maintenance equipment, products, and other resources related to golf course operations.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work in an outdoor environment for extended periods of time

Salary Range

$23/Hour + Based on experience.
