Assistant Superintendent

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our team. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will report directly to the Director of Grounds and play a key role in the maintenance and management of the golf course. This individual will oversee the maintenance of tees, greens, fairways, roughs, and cart paths, ensuring that the golf course meets the highest standards. Additionally, the Assistant Superintendent will supervise staff, manage equipment, and be involved in pesticide applications and irrigation system maintenance. This role may require the Assistant Superintendent to step in for the Director of Grounds in their absence.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, and roughs.
  • Schedule work and supervise the use of equipment and staff.
  • Instruct equipment operators on the proper operation and maintenance of mowing and other equipment.
  • Supervise and participate in pesticide applications, ensuring the proper operation and calibration of pesticide equipment.
  • Oversee and participate in the operation and maintenance of pumps, irrigation, and drainage systems.
  • Assist in personnel management, including employee evaluations, safety, and discipline.
  • Modify the daily work schedule as needed, based on professional judgment.

Supervisory Duties:

  • Responsible for the scheduling and supervision of maintenance work and staff, ensuring the efficient utilization of both workers and equipment.
  • Prepare/Maintain clear and concise pesticide application reports
  • Maintain effective relationships with employees

Educational Requirements

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • 3+ years of golf course/turf experience preferred but not required
  • In-depth knowledge of golf course maintenance, including greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and irrigation systems.
  • Experience with seeding, turf care, planting, pruning, and maintaining plants, shrubs, and trees.
  • Proficiency in the use of fertilizers, soil conditioners, herbicides, pest control methods, and drainage control techniques.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems, including wells, pumps, and automatic controls.
  • A valid driver's license in required
  • Ability to obtain or already possess current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
