Turf Equipment Technician

Tidewater Golf Club boasts an 18-hole championship golf course on the beautiful coast of South Carolina. Built in 1990, Tidewater Golf Club has maintained public play despite its location within a renowned, master planned community and both have received numerous local and national awards including Golf Course of the Year as recently as 2022.
Position Summary:
Under general supervision, the Technician repairs all equipment associated with course maintenance department. Responsibilities also include planning and implementing a preventative maintenance schedule for equipment, training staff in safe use and proper care and maintenance of assigned equipment, and advising the Superintendent regarding major equipment failures and/or replacement needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspect equipment for operating deficiencies. Repair and adjust equipment as needed.
- Lubricate and service all course maintenance equipment as necessary and/or in accordance with manufacturer’s required service and lubrication intervals.
- Ability to properly set up reels and maintain correct angles through a combination of grinding and lapping ensuring mowing equipment maintains daily cut quality standards.
- Maintain service, repair and usage records on all equipment.
- Establish safety procedures and maintain safety records for equipment operation.
- Develop working relationships with vendors, manufacturers and distributors to maintain service quality.
- Demonstrate to staff the use of new equipment and train in safe operation and proper care and maintenance of assigned equipment.
- Plan and implement a preventative maintenance schedule for equipment.
- Advise the Superintendent regarding major equipment failures and/or replacement needs.
- Perform general overhauls for equipment as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements
- High school, college degree, required or preferred.
- Supplemental service schools, continuing education or a combination of experience and formal training preferred.
- Valid driver’s license. Driving record meeting Company safety policies and guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to repair golf course equipment with an emphasis on quality of cut and reel geometry.
- Demonstrated quality verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including nights/weekends (rare).
- Positive attitude, professional manner and appearance in all situations.
Experience Requirements
- Supplemental service schools, continuing education or a combination of experience and formal training preferred.
- John Deere Service Advisor experience a plus but not required (training available).
- Valid driver’s license. Driving record meeting Company safety policies and guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to repair golf course equipment with an emphasis on quality of cut and reel geometry.
