Mechanic/Equipment Operator

Episcopal Academy is seeking a skilled and dependable Mechanic to join our Facilities team. The Mechanic will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of the school's vehicles, equipment, and their mechanical systems to ensure safe and efficient operations. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the school's transportation services and overall campus functionality. Additional roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain, inspect, and diagnose/repair all issues pertaining to various grounds, operation, maintenance equipment including diesel, electric and gasoline powered mowers/machinery and other small mechanical equipment used in campus work.

  • Prioritize and schedule equipment repair and maintenance work.

  • Maintain a preventative maintenance program within budget for all equipment and purchases on repair parts and replacement supplies.

  • Properly organize/manage records and budget for all equipment inventory, preventative maintenance and cost for repairs.

  • Oversee the maintenance shop area.

  • Communicate the necessary purchases and repairs needed.

  • Keep all equipment in safe working condition.

  • Daily reel maintenance and scheduled sharpening/grinding.

  • Organize and maintain a clean and safe working environment.

  • Help train staff on proper procedures and equipment operation.

  • Hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting.

  • Maintain a parts inventory and an organized parts room.

  • Assist with snow removal by shoveling, salting, sanding, and operating snow removal vehicles and equipment (24-hour on-call during inclement weather).

  • Other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification in automotive, diesel or mechanical repair preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2-4 years experience in vehicle or equipment maintenance.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with the Facilities and Operations team.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Working knowledge of grounds maintenance equipment (light/heavy).

  • Working knowledge of equipment repair tools.

  • Ability to grind reel mowers and effectively set up mowing equipment to the highest standard.

Special Requirements

  • Ability to read blueprints/diagnose issues and effectively repair electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, work in various weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks.

  • Ability to grind reel mowers and effectively set up mowing equipment to the highest standard.

  • Successful completion of child abuse, criminal record and finger print clearances required.
