Golf Course Superintendent

Minnewaska Golf Club is looking for a highly motivated individual to become our next Superintendent. The position works alongside our Head Golf Professional and under the direction of our Board of Directors. 

Minnewaska Golf Club in Glenwood is located just 15 minutes south of Alexandria. The original nine holes were built in 1923 and designed by Tom Vardon. Joel Goldstrand designed nine additional holes in 1993. The club overlooks beautiful Lake Minnewaska and has been rated 4 ½ stars by Golf Digest. We have over 300 members, a fantastic layout and great financial stability. The club has hosted many major state events including: MGA State Junior Team Championship, MGA Amateur Qualifiers, Minnesota Junior PGA Players Tour Events, two consistent ProAms every season, the 2018 Minnesota Junior PGA Girls Championship, the 2018 Minnesota Senior PGA Championship, the 2022 Minnesota PGA Championship, and the 2024 Minnesota Women’s State Amateur Championship.

Devote their time, attention and energies to the performance of duties as Superintendent at the Club. 

Develop and maintain a comprehensive turf management program that will provide optimum  playability while using sound environmental practices. 

Maintain and improve the course turf, equipment, buildings and irrigation system to the levels desired  by the Club. 

Establish and maintain a system of records of inventory, purchases, equipment maintenance and  chemical applications.

Hire, train and direct a staff of employees in the proper performance of operating equipment,  maintenance practices, shop procedures, safety guidelines and dealing with the public and membership.

• Identify problems on the course and with staff and solve them properly, effectively and in a timely manner and report injuries or property damage to the appropriate people when necessary

• Cooperate with the Head Golf Professional regarding course conditions and tournament play, as well as the completion of short- and long-term plans. 

Attend all monthly meetings with the Board of Directors. 

Submit a detailed annual budget plan for the golf course grounds operation to the board of directors.

• Stay abreast of new technologies and information as related to turf grass management

• Maintain a favorable status with suppliers and manufacturers.

Educational Requirements

Completion of 2 or 4 year turf grass management program.

Experience Requirements

Minimum of 2 years golf course experience as grounds supervisor or assistant superintendent.

• Demonstrate knowledge of all aspects of design, construction and maintenance of a golf course.

• Skilled and experienced operator of maintenance and construction equipment and machinery.

• Currently possesses or able to obtain Minnesota Pesticide Applicators License.

• Ability to effectively motivate, direct and supervise the work of others. 

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. 

Ability to establish effective relationships with Club management and staff. 

Familiar with use of computers.
