Assistant-in-Training

Full-time

The Assistant in Training (AiT) reports directly to the Assistant Superintendents, as well as the Superintendent.  The AiT participates in the routine maintenance of the golf course greens, bunkers, tees, fairways, rough native areas and cart paths. They are involved with the supervision and training of the interns and crew members; organizes and leads the application of all fertilizers and chemicals on all areas of the golf course. This position is designed to help the candidate advance their career in the turfgrass industry and prepare them to become an Assistant Superintendent.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Assists in oversite and inspection of all areas of the course including greens, tees, fairways, rough and native areas

·         Applies fertilizer and pesticides; calibrates application equipment; completes pre-mix spray sheets and record-keeping

·         Assists with irrigation maintenance including charge-up, fall blow-out, daily scheduling, basic repairs and additions

·         Performs morning course set-up (cup cutting and tee service) and crew training

·         Management of small crews and projects

·         Moisture management on greens and tees using POGO moisture meters and applies supplemental water as needed

·         Daily job board set up using Tasktracker and GreenkeeperApp data entry

·         Winter amenity maintenance including ice rink, tubing hills, snowshoe trails, and some snow removal

Educational Requirements

·         Possess a valid driver’s license

·         Successful completion, at a minimum, of 1 professional internship

·         A degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management

Experience Requirements

·         Ability to communicate clearly

·         Ability to train others on chemical applications and equipment use

·         Self-starter with initiative, ability and willingness to be a continual learner, and have a keen eye for detail

·         Basic knowledge of golf course maintenance practices

·         An interest in the game of golf is preferred
