Equipment/Shop Manager
Westmoreland Country Club, a premier private 18-hole facility located just north of Chicago in Wilmette, IL is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Equipment Manager.
The Equipment Manager will handle all aspects of golf course workshop management, including but not limited to reel maintenance, gasoline and diesel engines with tier four on board computer systems, sprayer technology, preventative equipment maintenance program, and equipment/parts fabrication. The equipment manager will play a key role in maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing an extensive equipment fleet and work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistants Superintendent.
Westmoreland Country Club will begin a comprehensive renovation beginning in July of 2025 led by Bruce Hepner of Hepner Golf Design. During this project the club will update bunkers, modernize the irrigation system, and perform a re-grassing of playing surfaces.
Club highlights:
- Fleet: Baroness, John Deere, Toro, Cushman, Wiedenmann, Turfco (all purchased)
- Irrigation: Toro system currently; upgrading to Rain Bird Cirrus Pro two-wire system in 2025

- Current: Bentgrass/Poa on tees, greens, approaches, and fairways
- Regrassing (2025): Centennial & 007XL Bentgrass
- Rough: Primarily Bluegrass with Poa and Rye

- Staff: 13 full-time, expanding to 20–30 in-season

Schedule:
- In-season (April–October): 40–60 hours/week, including at least one weekend morning
- Off-season (November–March): Approximately 35 hours/week

Functions:
- Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical defects/failures in equipment including diesel, electrical, hydraulic, and gasoline-powered, mowers and other mechanical equipment used in golf course maintenance work
- Communicates any needs or problems relating to maintenance or repair of equipment with the Superintendent
- Instruct and/or trains golf course maintenance workers regarding preventative maintenance and the proper cleaning and safe operation of equipment.
- Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance for all equipment
- Repairs and adjusts engines and cutting mechanisms on various heavy and light mowing equipment
- Keeps maintenance equipment fueled, oiled, and inspected; and performs related tasks as required
- Spot checks equipment for performance on the course, makes emergency repairs to equipment on the course, and services equipment prior to use
- Oversees shop maintenance area, maintaining a clean, safe, professional service area and maintenance building.
- Supervises, schedules, and reviews performance for all Mechanics.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Employment Standards:
- Skill in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools, and fabrication of various types of repair tools
- Working knowledge of care/maintenance of gasoline/diesel engines
- Ability to read blueprints/manuals to assist in repairs
- Ability to move heavy objects – must be able to lift 50+ pounds
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment
- Ability to fabricate necessary items for equipment and equipment maneuverability
- Ability to communicate effectively and keep Maintenance records
- Candidates will be required to work a varied schedule.
Preferred Experience & Education Requirements:
- High School Diploma required
- Valid Driver’s License
- Two or more years of experience at a golf maintenance facility or distributor preferred but not required
- Certification in automotive repair, diesel engine repair or similar fields will also be considered.
Wage/Benefits:

Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma required
