Golf Course Superintendent or Superintendent/General Manager job
I have been a golf course Superintendent for over 24 years and I am looking to use my experience, education and dedication to move into a new and challenging position. I have managed from 1 to 260 acres of golf courses on two different continents, where attention to detail, quality, precision gardening and maintenance are a must. If you are looking for someone who can make a difference and elevate the level of maintenance to new levels, I would love to come work with you
I am a Class A GCSAA Golf Course Superintendent with 24 plus years of vast experience in Las Vegas, California, Oregon, as well as international leadership and agronomy consultancy in Europe (Denmark). Throughout my career I have gained expertise in all aspects of golf course design, construction, renovation, and revitalization, leading to top conditions, including the completion of a full 18-hole renovation of Kolding Golf Club in Denmark, a 2-and-a-half-year project.
As a leader I have successfully developed multi-lingual teams by implementing innovative career programs, mentoring, and clearly articulating expectations as well as short and long-term goals. I also have a strong background working cooperatively with owners, boards of directors, chairmen, captains, golf professionals, members, HOA committees, and guests to ensure exceptional internal and external relations and goals. I have experience in managing 18, 27 and 36-hole facilities with crews from 9 to 70 employees. I have worked on public, private and high end private courses.
Agronomically, I have utilized my skills to complete multiple course development and construction projects and have worked internationally with successful transforming of properties, stabilizing struggling turf, and producing exceptional course conditions in highly diverse climates and environments while prioritizing environmental stewardship. Additionally, I have expertise in preparing and maintaining turf for Ecco and Srixon Tour events in Denmark, part of the Corn Ferry Tour. As a project manager, I have led several projects from design to completion and have a strong track record of fiscal planning and responsibility and have always kept to budget.
Turf management experience; Bentgrass, Poa, Ryegrass, Bermuda 419 with wall to wall overseed to Ryegrass for winter conditions (5 year’s experience), Paspalum, all varieties of Fescue, and Kikuyu.
Previously, I worked as Superintendent at Desert Willow and took the course to a rating of #24 best courses in Nevada for the first time in the history of the course. See reviews on Golf Pass for the past 4 years. Desert Willow made a profit for the first time in the history of the course under my leadership and continue to have record number of green fee play. They are known for having some of the best greens in Las Vegas. In the past 4 years while at Desert Willow, I have renovated all bunkers, built 13 new tees, of which one is a signature tee with a view of all of downtown Las Vegas, renovated all of the water system, added 28 new full heads, 85 new pop up precision heads, built new training facilities, qualified the course for a water rebate of 200,000$ through proper management techniques, and improved turf quality dramatically.
I am an expert in the use of the Cirrus Rainbird watering systems and irrigation programs, after training for a full year on the system with Rainbird. I have great working knowledge with the Toro Lynx system as well. I have several years of experience with course irrigation needs and water saving practices in both cool climates and desert conditions. I have strong organizational and supervisory skills and I am routine in the use of Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Thank you in advance for your consideration. I’m looking forward to hearing from you. Please don’t hesitate to call if you need more information or have any questions.
Sincerely yours,
Steven Charles Smith
