Canongate Golf of Atlanta, GA. recently purchased four golf courses at The Woodlands, outside of Houston, TX. Among the many capital improvements Canongate has made to the properties, a major bunker reconstruction project was began in 2008. Turf Drainage Co of America was proud to supply many of the materials chosen by Mike Archer and Bob Blalock, construction managers for Canongate Golf, during the renovation. Not only was all of the bunker drainage replaced with Turf Drain and Perma Basins, but Mike and Bob added portland cement to the bunker sub-grades to stabilize them and to reduce the contamination that was occurring. The gulf coast of Texas can have some of the heaviest rains of anywhere in the country.

After 17” of rain recently, the bunkers were not only reported to have drained well, but the erosion off of the bunker faces was minimal. Notice how they cut the interceptor line directly below the toe of the upper bunker wall. This line allows all of the water that runs into the bunker to be collected by the Turf Drain system, and stops the movement of the water across the sub-grade, causing the sand to erode away.

Fairway drainage is our "meat and potatoes". For over 20 years, we have offered golf courses an alternative to closing their golf course and rebuilding it in order to drain it. The systems developed at TDA give golf courses the ability to drain their golf courses to the depth that is necessary to firm up fairways in even the worst soils.

Greens drainage is retrofitted with a process that amazes even the most particular course. This process puts the green back in play the day after completion of work on a surface so smooth that it can be mowed without any significant scalping. Within two weeks of completion, 90% of all damage is gone. This process can be done to one or all 18 greens, depending on the club's needs and budgets.

Seaside and Low-Lying Courses

Seaside and wetland courses are a specialty at Turf Drainage Company of America. The patented TurfDrainSiphon System is an invaluable tool on these courses, as it allows TDA to design systems with less costand lower maintenance. The Turf Drain Siphon System can be used by itself, or in combination with gravity andpumped systems. No other company has had the experience across the country on these courses that TDA has had.

It isn't just our Turf Drain Siphon System that is a great tool on coastal and flat properties. We have had more experience than any other company in America desiging pump sites for properties to be used in conjunction with our siphon and gravity systems. If electricity is difficult to get to a site, we can design a sump that doesn't require new electrical service. Our new Irrigation Driven Pumps allow you to operate a pump using the energy in your irrigation system. These sumps are dependable, and can save thousands of dollars for remote locations.

Hillside and mountain courses present a real challenge in terms of planning the most efficient draiange system. Selecting the right combination of surface and seepage collection tools is critical in achieving the desired results, and getting the most for your drainage dollars spent. Because of the slopes and abundant fall that is typically present on these types of courses, the majority of the drainage installed utilizes conventional reliefs. However, when rocky soil conditions present difficult or impossible digging conditions, only Turf Drainage Company of America has the patented Turf Drain Siphon System available. This system gives TDA the ability to drain sites that would be cost prohibitive with conventional drainage.
