Job Details
Chevy Chase Club is seeking motivated turfgrass students to join our Agronomy Department for a hands-on internship focused on golf course management, professional development, and exposure to championship-level turfgrass operations.
Founded in 1892, Chevy Chase Club is one of the historic private clubs in the Washington, D.C. area. The golf course has a remarkable architectural history, having been influenced and shaped over more than a century by some of the most significant names in golf course architecture.
The course's history includes the work and influence of Walter Travis, Donald Ross, and Colt & Alison. Most recently, the Club completed an extensive renovation led by acclaimed golf course architect Andrew Green. The project reconnected the course with its historic architectural roots while incorporating elements from different periods of the course's history.
The renovated course reopened in 2025 and was subsequently named Golf Digest's 2025 Best Renovation, providing interns with the opportunity to work on and learn from a newly renovated, nationally recognized golf course.
Interns become an important part of the Chevy Chase Club Agronomy Team and are exposed to all aspects of maintaining and managing a high-quality private golf course.
This is intended to be an educational experience rather than simply a seasonal position. Interns will work closely with the Director of Agronomy, assistant superintendents, equipment technicians, and experienced greenkeeping staff while learning the daily decision-making involved in producing excellent playing conditions.
Internship experience will include:
- Daily golf course setup and preparation
- Putting green management
- Mowing of greens, tees, fairways, and roughs
- Moisture management and hand watering
- Irrigation operation, troubleshooting, and repair
- Fertilizer and plant-protectant applications
- Sprayer and spreader calibration
- Bunker maintenance
- Aeration, topdressing, and other cultural practices
- Turfgrass establishment and recovery
- Equipment operation and maintenance
- Robotic mowing and other emerging turf-management technology
- Use of USGA data and technology to evaluate putting green conditions
- Exposure to agronomic planning, scheduling, and daily management decisions
Chevy Chase Club is located immediately outside Washington, D.C., giving interns a unique combination of professional experience and an outstanding place to spend a summer. After work and on days off, interns are minutes from Washington, D.C. and have access to professional sports, restaurants, concerts, museums, nightlife, historic sites, and everything else the nation's capital has to offer.

Job Requirements
* Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related program preferred
* Valid driver’s license required
* Ability to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours when necessary
* Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
* Ability to meet the physical demands of golf course maintenance, including lifting up to 50 lbs
* Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment
* Previous golf course or turfgrass experience preferred, but not required
* International applicants must be eligible to obtain the appropriate U.S. visa or work authorization for the internship
Salary Range
From $20 to $22 per hour
