2027 Hollywood Golf Club Turfgrass Experience

Hollywood Golf Club is home to a well-renowned championship golf course designed by Walter J. Travis in 1917 and masterfully restored to its original intent by Brian Schneider and Renaissance Golf Design in 2014. The club has hosted numerous golf championships throughout our rich history at the State, Regional and National level. HGC was recently ranked 7^th in the state by Golf Digest. Hollywood Golf Club is a private, member-owned, family-friendly club located less than a mile from the Atlantic Ocean, in the town of Deal, located in Monmouth County, New Jersey.

The Hollywood Golf Club grounds staff provides students with a fully comprehensive internship. We take great pride in providing pristine playing conditions for our membership, and we are looking for dedicated individuals who want to excel in the golf course industry. Through various networking opportunities they can expect to make lasting connections that will greatly benefit them throughout their turf career. Previous intern references are available upon request. Interns will be trained in various high level agronomic practices to maintain and improve a championship level golf course.

While working here interns will be pushed to reach their greatest potential. Our goal is to do everything that we can to prepare them for the next step in furthering their career following their time at HGC. The opportunity of full-time employment post-graduation is also available. Duration of the internship is flexible for each candidate from March 1^st on.

ON-SITE HOUSING IS INCLUDED IN THIS INTERNSHIP! Interns will have a fully furnished private room in the family style course/club manager’s house located 30 yards from the grounds department facility.   

Up to three scholarships are offered through the club and its affiliations that have been used by past interns to great success. Each intern will be assigned an assistant superintendent in our one-on-one mentoring program and will work closely with them to gain greater depth into the managerial side of day-to-day operations. They will also be a part of our greens committee ride around program where they will have the opportunity to spend an afternoon with a greens committee member while they take a trip around the golf course to learn more about its history and changes made over the years. While here interns will also be able to sit in at a greens committee meeting to gain insight into the inner workings of a private golf club.

Interns will work alternating weekends during the playing season to allow for an enjoyable work life balance. Internship duration is flexible to work with class schedule. 

Interns will play a vital role in the following maintenance practices:

- Mowing of every playing surface

-Equipment setup

- Course prep and setup

- Chemical and Fertilizer application on every playing surface

- Manage an effective IPM program

- Daily crew preparations and management

- Drainage installation

- Irrigation installation and troubleshooting

- Stringent water management

- Equipment operation on all machinery
