2nd Assistant Superintendent / Spray Technician

Position Summary
Barton Creek Country Club & Resort is seeking a highly motivated 2nd Assistant Superintendent / Spray Technician to support agronomic operations at one of the premier multi-course facilities in Texas. This position plays a key role in executing daily maintenance programs with a strong emphasis on chemical applications, turf health, and course conditioning.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and possesses a strong working knowledge of pesticide, fertilizer, and plant health programs. This role offers hands-on experience in a high-performance environment with opportunities for growth within a leading resort golf operation.
Key Responsibilities
Spray & Chemical Management
- Apply fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, and other plant protectants safely and accurately
- Maintain proper calibration and operation of spray equipment
- Monitor turf conditions and adjust chemical programs as directed
- Ensure compliance with all label requirements, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines
- Maintain accurate records of all applications
Turfgrass Maintenance
- Assist in managing all aspects of turf maintenance including:
- Greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and practice areas
- Support fertility, irrigation, and cultural programs to maintain optimal turf health
- Participate in major PGA tournament and event preparation
Irrigation & Water Management
- Assist in operation and monitoring of Toro irrigation systems
- Support basic troubleshooting of irrigation components and pump stations
- Monitor water usage and assist in moisture management practices
Operations & Leadership
- Assist in planning and executing daily maintenance activities
- Help train and supervise crew members as needed
- Maintain strong organizational practices and attention to detail
- Support purchasing and inventory of chemical and fertilizer products
Administrative & Compliance
- Maintain chemical inventory and application logs
- Ensure compliance with government regulations and permitting requirements
- Utilize computer systems for recordkeeping, reporting, and communication

Job Requirements
Chemical applications (fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides)
Nitrogen carriers and plant nutrition
Turfgrass maintenance practices
Basic understanding of irrigation systems and water management
Experience with warm-season grasses (ultradwarf bermuda preferred)
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Valid driver’s license
Skills & Competencies
Detail-oriented with strong focus on accuracy and safety
Ability to analyze turf conditions and respond appropriately
Strong planning and organizational skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Understanding of the game of golf and how agronomic practices impact playability
(or minimum 2–4 years experience as a spray technician or assistant superintendent)
Texas Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain)
