2nd Assistant Superintendent

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The 2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for assisting in the oversite of the operation, and maintenance of the golf course to ensure optimal playing conditions. This includes assisting the agronomy team, attending the turfgrass, maintaining the landscape, and ensuring that all environmental and safety regulations are met. The 2nd Assistant Superintendent assists with projects and assists the management team in ensuring the course is ready for daily play, tournaments, and special events.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in interviewing and selecting crew members; onboard and orient new crew members to the location and policies and procedures; learns how to conduct performance reviews; rewards, coaches and disciplining staff.
- Learn to provide input on projects, staff development, employee evaluations, discipline and termination issues and wage increases.
- Communicate regularly with the crew, superintendent, golf staff and members.
- Communicate with the crew any updates or changes to procedures and processes on the maintenance of the golf course.
- Scouts the golf course on a regular basis for insect, weed, and disease problems. Diagnose any observations and take corrective action after discussion with Superintendent unless situation dictates otherwise
- In the absence of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent supervises the grounds crew, providing direction, training, and scheduling to ensure efficient and safe course maintenance.
- Maintain irrigation systems, ensuring that they are fully functional and that the course receives adequate water.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to pesticide application, water usage, environmental protection, and safety.
- Monitor weather patterns and make decisions on course closures, water management, and frost delays.
- Maintain records on pesticide and fertilizer applications, equipment maintenance, and turf conditions.
- Stay up to date on the latest trends and best practices in turfgrass management and golf course maintenance.
- Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
• Valid GA Pesticide License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• Competent on all equipment used on the golf course including calibration of sprayers and spreaders.
• Strong understanding of environmental regulations, including pesticide handling and application procedures.
• Participates in continuing education opportunities.
• Participate in professional organizations such as GCSAA and GGCSA.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate and mentor the crew.
