Cape Fear National Golf Club is seeking a motivated, dependable Assistant Equipment Mechanic & Equipment Operator to join our golf course maintenance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with equipment, has strong mechanical aptitude and wants to develop their skills in golf course equipment maintenance and repair. This position is intentionally designed as a combination role. The successful candidate will spend time operating golf course maintenance equipment while also working alongside and learning from our Head Equipment Mechanic.
For the right individual, this is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a wide range of specialized turf equipment and build the skills necessary to advance into an equipment technician or equipment management position within Heritage Golf Group.
Position Overview
The Assistant Equipment Mechanic & Equipment Operator will support daily golf course maintenance operations through the safe and effective operation of turf equipment while receiving hands-on training in equipment inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.
Under the supervision of the Head Equipment Mechanic, this individual will learn the fundamentals of maintaining golf course equipment while continuing to assist the agronomy team with mowing, course setup and other daily maintenance responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate golf course maintenance equipment, including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, aerification equipment and other motorized equipment.
- Perform mowing of greens, tees, collars, approaches, fairways and rough as assigned.
- Assist with daily golf course setup and general course maintenance activities.
- Complete pre-operation equipment inspections and promptly report mechanical issues.
- Clean and properly store equipment following use.
- Check and maintain appropriate fuel, oil and other fluid levels.
- Assist the Head Equipment Mechanic with routine equipment service and preventive maintenance.
- Learn basic troubleshooting, adjustment and repair procedures for golf course maintenance equipment.
- Develop proficiency using hand tools, power tools and specialized shop equipment.
- Assist with lubrication, filter changes, blade maintenance and other scheduled maintenance.
- Learn the basic operation and maintenance of gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems and electrical systems.
- Help maintain equipment maintenance and service records as directed.
- Maintain the equipment shop and work areas in a clean, organized and safe condition.
- Follow all established safety procedures for equipment operation and maintenance.
- Communicate equipment concerns to the Head Equipment Mechanic and golf course leadership.
- Assist with other golf course maintenance responsibilities as needed.

Job Requirements
We are looking for someone who is mechanically inclined, willing to learn and takes pride in caring for equipment.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Valid driver's license required.
Mechanical aptitude and an interest in equipment repair and maintenance.
Previous experience operating landscape, agricultural, construction or golf course equipment is preferred but not required.
Basic familiarity with hand and power tools is preferred.
Ability and willingness to learn equipment maintenance and repair under the direction of an experienced mechanic.
Ability to work safely and follow established procedures.
Dependable, team-oriented and willing to assist wherever needed.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing, walking, lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.
The physical and work-environment requirements are consistent with the existing Heritage descriptions, which include regular exposure to outdoor conditions and moving mechanical equipment, frequent physical activity, and use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
Technical/Mechanical training and experience preferred
