Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Job Details
Whitford Country Club is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our agronomy team. The Assistant Superintendent will work directly with the Golf Course Superintendent to manage the daily operations of the golf course, grounds, and maintenance staff.
This is a leadership role designed for an individual who is passionate about turfgrass management, takes pride in producing premier playing conditions, and excels at team building and staff training.
Key Responsibilities

Crew Leadership & Management: Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising the turf maintenance crew. Clearly communicate daily tasks and ensure all work is completed efficiently and to club standards.

Agronomic Operations: Execute and oversee the safe, accurate application of fertilizers and plant protectants. Maintain detailed, compliant records of all applications.

Water Management: Monitor course moisture levels daily. Oversee hand-watering of greens, tees, and fairways, and assist with the scheduling, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the irrigation system.

Course Preparation: Participate in and oversee daily course setup, mowing operations, and cultural practices (aerification, topdressing, etc.).

Project Management: Assist in planning and executing in-house projects, including drainage installation, Tree work, and targeted turf recovery programs.

Safety & Equipment: Ensure a safe working environment. Work closely with the Equipment Manager to ensure all machinery (mowers, tractors, sprayers) is operated safely and maintained properly.
Qualifications & Requirements

2- or 4-year degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or a related field.

1 to 3 years of golf course maintenance experience, ideally with supervisory experience.

Must possess or be able to obtain a Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator License within 90 days of hire.

Strong understanding of the rules of golf and how maintenance practices impact playability.

Valid driver’s license.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $60,000 - $80,000, commensurate with experience.
