Serviscape is seeking an energetic and motivated individual to join our team as the Assistant Superintendent at Long Beach County Club. 

Long Beach Country Club (LBCC) is a private, 18-hole golf course established in 1924. LBCC is a classic parkland style golf course nestled among the sand dunes of southern Lake Michigan. A complete course renovation is currently being planned to begin in 20272028.  The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will work closely with the Superintendent on all golf course related decisions, where input and ideas are valued and encouraged.

JOB OVERVIEW
This leadership role is full time, year-round & involves overseeing the maintenance and aesthetic quality of the golf course to established standards, ensuring optimal turf health, landscape beauty, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess strong horticultural and agronomic knowledge, supervisory skills, and a passion for maintaining a pristine golf environment. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists the Superintendent with daily golf course maintenance operations. Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of the golf course including the irrigation, drainage, mowing, fertilizing, & spraying. Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing all aspects of golf course maintenance.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, troubleshoot and repair irrigation systems to ensure proper water distribution and turf health. Rain Bird Cirrus Pro system with Rain Bird 702 rotors.
  • Schedule and adjust irrigation cycles based on weather and course conditions.
  • Ensure proper care of greens, tees, fairways, and roughs.
  • Assist with course setup and special projects.
  • Application of fertilizers and chemicals. Proper calibration, mixing, and application of chemicals and fertilizer. Must have and maintain a current Indiana 3b Applicator license. Takes continuing education courses as necessary to maintain licensing.
  • Effective moisture management of turfgrass.
  • Disease scouting, diagnosis and management.
  • Daily inspections of the golf course to identify areas needing attention or repair.
  • Coordinates with pro-shop staff to ensure preparation of the course for regular play and tournaments in the Superintendent's absence.
  • Tree trimming and removal.
  • Assists with snow removal.
  • Operates and supervises the use of various heavy equipment including front end loaders and tractors.

Job Requirements

Experience Requirements
● Previous experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, Second Assistant, or years of relevant golf course experience.
● Experience with golf course maintenance and irrigation systems. Ability to troubleshoot irrigation systems (electrical and control components).
● Knowledge of turfgrass practices, equipment operation, and agronomy principles.
● Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
● Strong work ethic, reliability, highly organized, positive attitude, motivated, energetic leader, with a high attention to detail.
● Physical ability to perform outdoor work in various weather conditions; familiarity with safety procedures is essential.
Educational Requirements
● Two- or four-year degree highly preferred in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, Plant Sciences, Agronomy or closely related field (preferred but not required)
o Absent a degree, an equivalent combination of educational and experience may be substituted.
● Minimum of four years' experience on a golf course
● Must be able to read, write and speak English.
● Must have recent and relevant supervisory skills.
● Must maintain both a valid driver's license and clear driving record for insurance purposes.
* Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days an Indiana non-commercial 3b applicators license.
Special Requirements
Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with indoor and outdoor settings with moderate to loud levels of noise. The employee is exposed to adverse weather conditions including but not limited to heat, humidity, rain, wind, cold & snow. The position is very active.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to grasp or reach with hands and arms, sometimes over shoulders. The employee frequently is required to perform heavy manual labor; operate motorized equipment and vehicles; sit, climb, kneel, crouch, twist, balance & have leg/foot use (to use machine controls).
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds; infrequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Regularly required to work extended hours during the golf season & every other weekend.
