The Assistant in Training will work alongside our experienced management team and gain hands-on experience in all aspects of maintaining exceptional playing conditions and beautiful course grounds. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate

What You Will Learn
This position provides an opportunity to develop a comprehensive understanding of the agronomic and operational aspects of managing a cool-season golf facility. Working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and management team, the Assistant in Training will gain hands-on experience in:
• Crew Management: Learn how to effectively lead, organize, schedule, and manage a 35-person golf course maintenance crew.
• Chemical and Pesticide Applications: Develop an understanding of responsible
chemical and pesticide use, including application practices, safety, regulations,
calibration, and record keeping.
• Moisture Management: Learn irrigation management, water conservation, soil
moisture monitoring, and strategies for maintaining optimal turf health and playing conditions.
• Budgeting and Planning: Gain experience with annual budgeting, purchasing,
resource allocation, forecasting, project planning, and managing the financial
aspects of golf course maintenance.
• Cool-Season Agronomy: Develop a comprehensive understanding of the agronomic practices required to manage cool-season turfgrass throughout the growing season.
• Overall Golf Course Management: Gain practical knowledge of fertility, pest
management, irrigation, cultural practices, turf health, course preparation, weather impacts, and the many other agronomic decisions involved in managing a championship golf facility.
• Leadership and Communication: Develop the leadership, communication,
organization, and decision-making skills necessary to advance in the golf course
management profession.

Key Responsibilities
• Assist the Golf Course Superintendent and management team with daily golf course maintenance operations.
• Help supervise, organize, and direct the work of the golf course maintenance team.
• Maintain tees, greens, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and landscaped areas.
• Operate and care for golf course maintenance equipment safely and responsibly.
• Mow, trim, edge, rake bunkers, and perform daily course setup duties.
• Assist with irrigation system operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
• Assist with irrigation scheduling and moisture management throughout the golf course.
• Plant, prune, fertilize, and maintain turf, trees, shrubs, and flower beds.
• Assist with chemical and pesticide applications in accordance with label
requirements, safety procedures, and applicable regulations.
• Perform aerification, topdressing, overseeding, and other cultural turf practices as directed.
• Assist with fertility and plant-protection programs.
• Monitor turf conditions and communicate agronomic concerns and course issues promptly.
• Maintain and clean maintenance equipment, tools, and work areas.
• Follow daily work schedules, maintenance standards, and safety procedures.
• Work closely with supervisors and fellow team members to complete assigned
projects efficiently.
• Help prepare the course for tournaments, special events, and daily member play.
• Assist with offseason improvement projects, including course renovations,
landscape enhancements, equipment maintenance, construction projects, and other Club initiatives.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Educational Requirements
Qualifications
• Previous golf course maintenance, landscaping, grounds maintenance, turfgrass, or
related outdoor work experience is preferred but not required.
• A degree, certificate, or coursework in turfgrass management, agronomy,
horticulture, or a related field is preferred but not required.
• Ability to safely operate or learn to operate commercial mowing and maintenance
equipment.
• Ability to learn and perform chemical and pesticide applications safely and
responsibly.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work, including
walking, standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive motions.
• Ability to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime as
needed.
• Valid driver's license is preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills are preferred.
