Job Title: Assistant-in-Training
Location: Pittsburgh Field Club — Pittsburgh, PA Employment: Full-time, year-round (peak-season weekends/early mornings required)
About the Role
Pittsburgh Field Club seeks a motivated Assistant-in-Training (AIT) to join our grounds team on a development path toward Assistant Superintendent. This role provides hands-on agronomic experience, leadership training, and exposure to all facets of high-end golf course maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily course setup: mow/roll greens, set cups/tees, rake bunkers, detail surrounds.
- Cultural practices: topdressing, aerification, verticutting, overseeding, sod/seed repairs.
- Irrigation: hand-watering, moisture management, basic troubleshooting and repairs.
- Applications: assist with fertilizer and pesticide applications; calibration and recordkeeping.
- Equipment: safe operation of walk/ride units; daily inspection, cleaning, and reporting.
- Projects: drainage installs, bunker edging, cart path and landscape improvements.
- Leadership: help train/lead seasonal staff; support preparation and execution for daily championship conditions.
- Safety & compliance: follow PPE, chemical handling, and environmental protocols.
- Snow removal in winter months
