Assistant in Training

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:

Employees of Bluejack Ranch ensure that the highest level of service is offered to the members and guests of Bluejack Ranch by providing them with personal, gracious and professional service. Under general direction from the Superintendent and Assistant, the Assistant-In-Training is responsible for oversite and implementation of applying all pesticides and fertilizers to golf course greens, tees, fairways and roughs.  Responsible for maintenance of application equipment in good, clean working condition. Required to keep accurate application records as well as records of inventory levels. The AIT will assists with calibrations, application and mixture of all pesticides and fertilizers to be applied to golf course greens, tees, fairways and roughs. Reports any labor or equipment needs to the supervisor.  Performs all golf course tasks as a fill-in employee and fulfillment of job assignments based on instructions from the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities of the Assistant-In-Training include, but are not limited to the following:

• Directs the employees assigned to work under his or her jurisdiction
• Must understand all aspects of daily course set up
• Inform supervisor of any work discrepancies or equipment malfunctions
• Performs work with due regard to safety of self and fellow employees, and with proper crew and protection of company property
• Must operate all golf course equipment as required
• Must have experience calibrating sprayers and spreaders and knowledgeable in application of fertilizers and pesticides
• Observe and report turf and equipment problems to the supervisor
• Must be able to follow directions on fertilizer and pesticide labels
• Manage the organization of the IPM building and mixing areas
• Must be able to communicate proficiently
• Provide excellent member services, professional advice and assistance to all patrons
• Conduct oneself in a professional manner and maintain a professional image at all times
• Be informed on, and promote all club activities and services
• Plan and supervise all new irrigation and drainage installation projects.
• In conjunction with the superintendents, develop efficient programming techniques for maximum efficiency to provide quality conditions for all turf areas.
• Responsible for operating irrigation heads in dry areas needing additional water. Perform supplemental watering as needed.
• Oversee installation and repair of irrigation control wiring.
• Maintain and repair irrigation controllers, valves, PVC’s, HDPE, sprinkler heads, air relief valves and other system components as needed.
• Inspect the system daily for leaks and proper performance. Make necessary repairs and adjustments.
• Perform supplemental watering as needed.
• Responsible for programming the various irrigation system central controllers on the golf course.
• On occasion, supervise a small labor force for special projects.
• Perform work with due regard to safety of self and fellow employees while exercising proper care and protection of company property.
• Be a Bluejack Ranch ambassador at all times
• Attend all relevant operational meetings
• Support the Club Customs, Culture and Rules
• Adheres to all federal, state and local laws regarding health, safety and employment
• Attend to special projects and additional duties as requested by Director of Agronomy, Superintendent and Assistant
• All other duties as assigned
