Wykagyl Country Club is seeking a motivated and hardworking Assistant in Training (AIT) to join our agronomy team. Located just 20 minutes north of Manhattan, Wykagyl is a historic private club known for championship-caliber conditioning and a strong tradition of excellence. This position offers an outstanding opportunity for an individual looking to build a long-term career in golf course management while gaining experience at one of the premier clubs in the Met Section.
The AIT will work closely with the Director of Agronomy, Superintendent, and Assistant Superintendents in all aspects of golf course maintenance and daily operations. Candidates should possess a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and desire to advance within the turfgrass industry.
Founded in 1898, Wykagyl Country Club is a classic 18-hole golf course shaped by legendary architects Donald Ross and A.W. Tillinghast. The club has hosted numerous professional and amateur events and is consistently recognized as one of the premier classic golf courses in the Northeast.
Wykagyl will host the 2026 Women’s Met Amateur Championship, providing valuable tournament preparation and championship conditioning experience for the selected candidate. In addition, the club is preparing for a comprehensive irrigation installation project scheduled for 2028, offering hands-on exposure to large-scale construction and infrastructure management.
The agronomy team is also actively engaged in a variety of golf course improvement projects in collaboration with renowned golf course architects Coore & Crenshaw, creating a unique opportunity to gain experience in restoration work, course architecture, and long-term master planning.
Responsibilities
- Assist with daily golf course setup and maintenance
- Participate in fertilizer and pesticide applications
- Irrigation repair and water management
- Operate and maintain turf equipment
- Assist with aerification, topdressing, and cultural practices
- Lead small crews and complete assigned projects
- Help maintain championship-level playing conditions
- Support tournament preparation and special events
