St. James Bay Golf & Pickleball Resort is seeking a dedicated and hands on Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our agronomy team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated turf professional who wants to grow their career while contributing to the maintenance of a beautiful, environmentally certified coastal golf course.
About the Course
St. James Bay is an 18-hole championship course located along Florida’s Forgotten Coast. As an Audubon International Certified Sanctuary, we prioritize environmental stewardship, water quality, and wildlife protection while delivering excellent playing conditions for members, guests, and the local community.
Position Overview
The Assistant Superintendent works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to plan, execute, and oversee daily maintenance operations. This role is ideal for someone who is detail oriented, proactive, and eager to take on leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist in all aspects of turfgrass management, including greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and native areas
• Lead, train, and motivate the maintenance team in daily tasks
• Oversee irrigation system operation, troubleshooting, and repair
• Apply fertilizers and pesticides in accordance with state and environmental guidelines
• Monitor course conditions and communicate needs proactively
• Operate and maintain a wide range of turf equipment
• Support planning and execution of cultural practices (aerification, topdressing, verticutting, etc.)
• Ensure safety standards and best practices are followed
• Contribute to long term agronomic planning and project execution
Qualifications
• Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field
• Experience with irrigation systems preferred
• Minimum 1–3 years of golf course maintenance experience
• Leadership qualities in managing a crew of maintenance workers preferred.
• Floridia pesticide application license preferred, or ability to attain one within 3 months.
• Strong understanding of warm season turfgrass management (Bermuda, Paspalum preferred)
• Experience with irrigation systems (Toro or Rain Bird helpful)
• Ability to work early mornings, weekends, holidays as needed, minimum of 55 hours per week
• Strong communication skills and a positive, team focused attitude
Compensation & Benefits
• $40,000 to $63,000 based on experience
