Assistant Superintendent

Founded in 1924 and set on 230 acres in Greenwich, CT, Round Hill Club is one of the few remaining Walter Travis designs in the country. In partnership with architect Andrew Green, we are restoring and revitalizing Travis’s original vision, emphasizing dramatic landforms, strategic bunkering, and classic Golden Age design principles. Targeted to begin in August 2027, the proposed renovation will include new bunkers and tees, expanded fairways and greens, and new irrigation laterals.

Role Overview

This position is designed to prepare you for a future Golf Course Superintendent role. You will gain hands-on project ownership, visible leadership experience, and structured professional development that will distinguish you to hiring committees. Through active mentorship, you will strengthen your résumé and interview materials, expand your professional network, and make your time at Round Hill Club a defining chapter in your career.

Key Responsibilities

· Reporting to the Superintendent, you will help lead daily operations and key initiatives:

· Plan and execute daily maintenance: mowing, irrigation, chemical/fertilizer applications, and cultural practices.

· Supervise, train, and inspire a seasonal and full-time team; reinforce safety and efficiency.

· Operate and help maintain turf equipment and irrigation systems; assist with setup/diagnostics.

· Monitor turf performance (moisture, disease, traffic/wear) and recommend data-driven adjustments.

· Support budgeting, recordkeeping, and inventory management with discipline and accuracy.

· Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards.

· Communicate across departments and model a positive, team-first culture.

· Be directly involved in planning and executing the Andrew Green Master Plan.

· Uphold and improve our budget management systems and protocols.

Superintendent-Focused Development Path

· Portfolio Building: Lead showcase projects (e.g., green expansions, bunker work, drainage, fairway re-grassing) with before/after documentation.

· Interview Coaching & Materials: Help refining your resume, cover letters, and work samples; conduct mock interviews.

· Professional Networking: Proactive introductions to committees, architects, vendors, and peer superintendents.

· Leadership Reps: Run morning meetings, craft schedules, manage project plans, and present at committee meetings.

· Technology Exposure: Experience with TurfRad moisture sensing, Kress Robotics, RFID technology, GPS sprayers, EvokeIQ data dashboards, GreenKeeper App, and modern irrigation software.

· Construction Experience: New irrigation, bunkers, greens expansions, tees, special project execution with budgeting, and collaboration with Andrew Green on our Master Plan Renovation.

· Sustainable Career Experience: Focus on maximizing productivity during the day through technology efficiencies.

· CoPilot A.I. Deployment: Help learning how to deploy A.I. Agents to automate tasks, seek and reference materials, and streamline data.
