Assistant Superintendent
Job Details

Sleepy Hollow Country Club is a world renowned C.B. MacDonald original design overlooking the Hudson River in Scarborough, New York. The 338-acre property consists of a championship 18-hole Upper Course and a 9-hole Lower Course. The Upper Course is currently ranked 52nd in the United States by Golf Digest, and 70th in the world by Golf Magazine. Hanse Golf Course Design completed a restoration of the Upper Course in 2016 that converted the greens construction to USGA specification while utilizing the original poa sod. The Lower Course consists of modified native soil push-up greens, offering candidates a unique opportunity to manage both sand-constructed USGA greens and hundred-year-old native soil greens on the same property.
The club is in the beginning stages of planning a bunker reconstruction and surround re-grassing project, as well as converting the remainder of the Upper Course irrigation system to Toro 2-wire with Smart Hubs and Infinity Heads. Additionally, the club is investing in drainage improvements, working with Golf Preservations Inc each offseason to install and improve drainage infrastructure.
The Assistant Superintendent will be an integral part of a strong agronomic team that strives to provide championship level conditioning daily for our membership and guests. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, detail-oriented professional who is passionate about golf course management and committed to achieving exceptional playing conditions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a desire to continuously learn and grow within a high-performance team. They should demonstrate leadership by example, communicate effectively with staff, and embrace accountability, organization, and attention to detail.
Assistants should expect to be involved in all aspects of the operation, including but not limited to fertilizer and plant protectant applications on all playing surfaces, advanced moisture management, equipment operation and cultural practices, record-keeping and data collection, off-season construction and course improvement projects, and snow removal.
Currently, the agronomic team at Sleepy Hollow consists of a Director of Agronomy, course superintendent, senior assistant, 3-4 assistants, horticulturalist, equipment manager and technician, 3-4 seasonal interns, and a seasonal crew of 30-35. We strive to promote from within and have seen numerous assistants and interns move on to superintendent and assistant positions across the country in the last several years.
