Forest lake Club is a member-owned, “legacy type” private club with 1140 members.  For more than 100 years, Forest Lake Club has been the premier country club in the Midlands.  Generations have enjoyed its beautiful landscape, phenomenal golf course, tennis courts, swimming pools, and various dining and entertainment venues.  Over the years the campus has grown with the addition of many new amenities and facilities. We have preserved our time-honored traditions and continued emphasis of good sportsmanship, decorum, and civility.  The club is currently partnered with Beau Welling, and is working towards a full golf master plan renovation in the next few years.

Job Summary

An opportunity to experience a rich history of golf in a 100+ year old environment.  Work to elevate the day to day conditioning on a unique historical course, while experiencing several different turfgrass varieties and a membership whom is eager to elevate the quality care on the course while planning for a future renovation. 

Varieties of Turfgrass –

Putting Surfaces – Champion Ultradwarf surrounded by Celebration Hybrid Bermudagrass collars

Fairways – Tifway 419 Hybrid Bermudagrass

Teeing Grounds – Mixture of Tifway 419 Hybrid Bermudagrass/Celebration Hybrid Bermudagrass/Diamond Zoysia

Irrigation – Two wire rainbird system with man-made lake source.

  • Participate in delegating assignments and training of personnel.
  • Instruct and train equipment operators on the operation, care, and storage of equipment.
  • Support irrigation tech with repairs, design and installations
  • Supervise and participate in chemical, fertilizer and pesticide applications while developing agronomic calendars. 
  • Observe daily conditions including mowing quality, greens’ speed, bunker conditions, course set up, and moisture management moisture.
  • Communicate as necessary with Pro Shop staff about course conditions, maintenance plans, and scheduled tournaments.
  • Actively participate in work alongside crew
  • Assist in formulating a zero based operating budget of 2.1M dollars.
  • Order pesticides, sands, and supplies from various vendors.
  • Perform any other golf course maintenance tasks assigned by the Director of Grounds.

Directly Supervises: Spray Technician, Irrigation Technician, and Maintenance Crew (20-26).

Job Knowledge, Core Competencies, Education and Experience

  • Ability to work a schedule that will include some weekends and holidays.
  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course greens, tees, and fairways; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
  • Proficiency in computer use, knowledge of Microsoft Office, Task Tracker, Playbooks, and other preferred applications
  • Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and concise reports; and maintain effective employee and member relations.

Job Requirements

Experience Requirements
Preferred minimum 2 years of experience as an AIT/Assistant Superintendent or recent Graduate of a Turfgrass Program
Educational Requirements
2 or 4 year Turfgrass Management Degree or Certificate in Turfgrass Management
SC Pesticide License or ability to obtain within 90 days.
Valid Driver’s License.
