Assistant Superintendent
Job Details
This position is an exempt position as an Assistant Superintendent.
Work hours: October – April is generally 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. We will have frost delays in the spring and fall. We water off of the well in the spring and in the fall while there is no water in the irrigation canal. In the winter months there are times we work the weekend because the clubhouse and golf simulators are open and the maintenance department is responsible for snow removal.
The months of May - September is generally 5:30 am to 2:00 pm. The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent alternate weekend responsibilities. The mechanic is scheduled on the same week as the Assistant Superintendent. The crew work hours are generally 6:00 am to 2:00 pm. They do not receive overtime, so we schedule early release on Wednesday for men’s day and Friday because most Friday afternoons are busy or a tournament is scheduled. We come in at 5:30 am because we have silt issues and usually have irrigation that has stuck on. We also do supplemental watering before we have to switch the irrigation to the homeowners by 7:30 am. We can do some supplemental watering after the switch but we have to monitor so we do not take away pressure from the homeowners.
Job responsibilities:
- Assist with crew hiring, training, supervising, and termination.
- Assist with crew scheduling daily duties and weekend duties
- Assist with mowing duties, course setup, cup cutting, and raking bunkers
- Irrigation scheduling, trouble shooting, repair, handwatering, and winterizing the system
- Assist the Superintendent with fertilizer and pesticide applications
- Assist the mechanic with reel setup and adjustments
- Assist the Superintendent and mechanic on winter equipment maintenance and repairs
- Snow removal in the winter
- Winter handwatering of the greens

The greens are back to back with one isolation valve for the greens loop. The tees are looped and have two isolation valves. The fairways are two row and depending on the length of the hole there is two or three fairway loops. The fairway sprinkler heads are piggy back of two heads per station. The rough is block irrigation system. The inter rough are full circle heads and perimeter rough is adjustable heads. Each fairway loop has two isolation valves and also isolates the rough heads in that loop. In mid-March to mid-May and late September to mid-October we water off the irrigation well. The winterization of irrigation system is scheduled around the third week of October. The irrigation system feeds the homeowners that surround the golf course. They only receive irrigation when the golf course is watering off of the irrigation canal. The homeowner irrigation schedule is Tuesday through Sunday from the time of 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. On Monday we have the irrigation water, so we do the bulk of our supplemental watering this day. Our water window is 8:20 pm to 7:30 am every night. The pumphouse is Watertronics control with two 75 hp centrifugal pumps. There are two sand separators and two Tekleen filters to filter the silt. The irrigation canal supplies the system with a static pressure of 50 to 55 psi and the pumps supplement to give us operational pressure of 90 psi while irrigating at night.
Equipment: The mowing equipment and maintenance carts is a mix of John Deere and Toro. The rental golf cart fleet are Yamaha gas golf carts. During the golfing season the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent will monitor the quality of cut on the reel mowers and will assist the mechanic on reel adjustments.
