Position Summary
Addison Reserve Country Club recently completed a comprehensive golf course redesign led by renowned architect Rees Jones, transforming our three nine-hole golf courses into a dynamic championship golf experience. The project received Honorable Mention in Golf Digest’s Best Golf Course Renovation, reinforcing the Club’s commitment to excellence in golf course architecture and conditioning.
Building on this momentum, Addison Reserve continues to invest in the future of the club with several significant capital improvements currently planned. These projects include the renovation and expansion of the Agronomy Operations Center, designed to support the efficiency and growth of the golf course maintenance operation, as well as the development of a world-class golf performance center and practice facility on the driving range.
These investments reflect the Club’s long-term commitment to maintaining its standing as a Platinum Club of America (currently ranked #4 country club in the United States) while continuing to elevate the golf experience for our members and guests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Superintendent supports the Director of Agronomy in the daily management and operation of golf course maintenance activities, including:
Golf Course Operations
- Assist in supervising and coordinating daily maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and practice areas.
- Participate in planning and scheduling daily maintenance activities and agronomic programs.
- Assist with cultural practices including aerification, verticutting, topdressing, and seasonal turf management programs.
- Monitor course conditions and communicate potential issues to the Director of Agronomy.
Leadership & Team Development
- Supervise and direct maintenance staff in daily work assignments.
- Train employees in proper maintenance techniques and safe equipment operation.
- Promote a work environment centered on safety, accountability, teamwork, and professionalism.
- Assist with staff scheduling, evaluations, and performance management.
Agronomic Programs
- Assist with fertilizer and pesticide applications in accordance with agronomic plans and regulatory guidelines.
- Calibrate and operate pesticide application equipment as needed.
- Monitor irrigation systems and assist with scheduling adjustments based on weather and turf needs.
- Assist with drainage, irrigation, and infrastructure maintenance.
Equipment & Resource Management
- Ensure proper use and care of all golf course maintenance equipment and facilities.
- Monitor the condition of tools, equipment, and facilities, and coordinate repairs when necessary.
- Assist in maintaining records related to pesticide applications and maintenance operations.
Communication & Club Integration
- Maintain clear communication with the Director of Agronomy regarding daily operations and course conditions.
- Assist in ensuring the quality of work performed by staff and vendors meets Addison Reserve standards.
- Interact professionally with club members, management, and staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of turfgrass management and golf course maintenance practices.
- Understanding of irrigation systems and equipment operation.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented culture.
Education and Experience
- Degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred.
- Previous golf course maintenance experience required, preferably at a private club or high-quality facility.
- Florida pesticide license or ability to obtain.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
