Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Job Details
Overbrook Golf Club is seeking an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent who wants to take on real responsibility, continue to develop as a turf professional, and prepare for the next step in their career.
At Overbrook, our Assistants have a voice in the operation, lead and manage staff, participate in agronomic decisions, and are involved in projects from planning through completion. As Assistants grow in their role, so does their responsibility and understanding of the broader role of a Golf Course Superintendent.
The culture of our management team is extremely important to us. We are a close-knit, collaborative group that genuinely enjoys working together, shares ideas, and takes pride in what we accomplish as a team. We also believe in learning by doing. Assistants are encouraged to make decisions, try new ideas, ask questions, and occasionally make mistakes. We would rather give someone the opportunity to take ownership and learn from the result than simply follow directions.
We don't believe building a successful career in golf course management should require sacrificing your quality of life. Our Assistants receive a four-day weekend every three weeks during the golf season, with additional scheduled time off between those extended weekends. We work hard and maintain high expectations, but also believe time away from the golf course is important to building a sustainable career.
In addition to normal daily tasks, successful Assistants also have opportunities to sit in on Green Committee meetings and participate in select member events, receptions, and the Annual Governance Meeting, providing valuable experience with budgeting, capital planning, member communication, club governance, and relationship-building.
Together, these opportunities help prepare Assistants for the next step in their careers. Former Assistants have become Golf Course Superintendents, taken on larger roles at other clubs, and built successful careers in other areas of the golf industry.
This is an exciting time to join Overbrook. The Club recently completed a golf course renovation and maintains an active relationship with golf course architect Andrew Green. We will install a new pump station in 2027, are planning a complete irrigation system replacement in the coming years, and continue to work with Andrew on improvements to the golf course. Assistants will have the opportunity to be directly involved in these projects from planning through implementation.
Technology is an important part of our operation, from automation and GPS-guided equipment to advanced data collection and water management. We are constantly looking for better ways to operate, and Assistants are encouraged to bring new ideas to the table and help us find the next way to improve.
Ultimately, we want our Assistants to leave Overbrook ready for whatever comes next. When that opportunity comes, we don't want it to be the first time they've been asked to think like a Golf Course Superintendent.
