Job Summary
A premier private golf course in Wallingford, CT, is seeking a motivated,
detail-oriented Assistant-in-Training (AIT) to join our grounds management team.
This entry-level developmental role is designed for individuals pursuing a career
in golf course management, providing direct mentorship and a clear path toward
an Assistant Superintendent position. You will work closely with the
Superintendent to maintain championship-level playing conditions through
hands-on leadership and advanced agronomic practices.
Key Responsibilities
● Daily Course Operations: Lead and participate in daily course setup,
including walk-mowing greens, tees, and fairways, as well as bunker
maintenance and hand-raking.
● Agronomic Support: Assist with chemical and fertilizer applications,
including proper calibration and detailed recordkeeping.
● Irrigation Management: Participate in moisture management,
troubleshooting, and repairing modern irrigation systems.
● Crew Leadership: Supervise and train small teams, ensuring work
assignments are completed to high standards of productivity and safety.
● Project Supervision: Assist with seasonal projects such as drainage repair,
tree removal, and bunker improvements.
● Equipment Care: Operate and help maintain a wide range of turf equipment,
from specialty mowers to tractors and skid-steers.
Qualifications
● Education: Currently enrolled in or graduated from a 2- or 4-year
degree/certificate program in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or a
related field. A willingness to learn with hard work ethic could be
considered.
● Experience: Prior experience on a golf course or in professional
landscaping is highly preferred.
● Licenses: Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have the ability to
obtain a CT Pesticide License within a reasonable timeframe (e.g., 30–90
days).
● Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in all
weather conditions, including extreme heat and rain.
● Schedule: Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings,
weekends, and holidays as required by the golfing season.
Compensation & Benefits
● Competitive Salery: Often ranging from $50,000 – $70,000 depending
