Position Summary

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent in directing all aspects of golf course maintenance, agronomic programs, staff development, and equipment operations.

This leadership position assists with planning, scheduling, and executing daily maintenance while helping maintain the highest standards of course conditioning, safety, and environmental stewardship.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing daily golf course maintenance operations.
  • Lead, train, motivate, and supervise the golf course maintenance team.
  • Help maintain exceptional playing conditions throughout the golf course and club grounds.
  • Assist with fertilizer, pesticide, and plant health programs.
  • Monitor irrigation systems and coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Inspect the golf course daily and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and agronomic programs.
  • Assist with scheduling, staffing, and workforce development.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Promote a safe working environment and conduct ongoing safety training.
  • Coordinate projects with outside contractors when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with golf operations regarding course conditions and daily activities.
  • Assist with clubhouse landscape maintenance and overall property presentation.
  • Support long-term planning and continuous improvement initiatives alongside the Superintendent.

Job Requirements

Experience Requirements
Previous experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent or in a progressive golf course management role.
Supervisory experience with golf course maintenance personnel.
Florida pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain).
Valid driver's license.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Knowledge of golf course maintenance practices, irrigation systems, equipment operation, and agronomic principles.
Passion for producing exceptional playing conditions and advancing within the golf industry.
Educational Requirements
Associate's Degree in Turfgrass Management required; Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, or related field preferred.
Special Requirements
Physical Requirements
This position requires regular outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including heat and humidity typical of Florida. Responsibilities include lifting, bending, walking, climbing, operating maintenance equipment, and performing physically demanding tasks throughout the golf course.
