Position Summary

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent assists the Golf Course Superintendent in directing all aspects of golf course maintenance, agronomic programs, personnel management, irrigation operations, and equipment utilization. This leadership position is responsible for helping maintain outstanding playing conditions while ensuring efficient daily operations, environmental stewardship, and a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily management of golf course maintenance operations.
  • Supervise, train, motivate, and develop the golf course maintenance team.
  • Help maintain championship-quality playing conditions on all golf course surfaces.
  • Assist in implementing fertilizer, pesticide, and plant health programs.
  • Monitor irrigation systems and coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Inspect the golf course daily and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and agronomic documentation.
  • Assist with scheduling, workforce planning, and employee development.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices throughout the maintenance operation.
  • Coordinate projects with outside contractors as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with Golf Operations regarding course conditions and maintenance schedules.
  • Assist in maintaining clubhouse grounds, landscaping, and surrounding property.
  • Support long-range agronomic planning alongside the Golf Course Superintendent.

 

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Turfgrass Management required; Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience serving under an experienced Golf Course Superintendent is required.
  • Supervisory experience within a golf course maintenance operation preferred.
  • Florida pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems, equipment operation, turfgrass management, and golf course maintenance practices.
  • Passion for producing exceptional playing conditions and advancing within the golf industry.

Special Requirements
Physical Requirements
This position requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions typical of Florida, including heat and humidity. Duties involve lifting, bending, walking, climbing, operating maintenance equipment, and performing physically demanding work throughout the golf course.
