Division Manager – Turf & Ornamentals

Position Summary

To direct, supervise, and manage the safe work of our turf and ornamental technicians. Be able to accurately diagnose insects, disease and turf weeds, as well as ornamental trees and shrubbery. In order to prescribe solutions to our Area Manager’s and/or client. Ensure that control products are being applied according to label specifications and in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. Ensure that required documentation and reporting are being done timely and accurately. Additionally, this person will work in coordination with the Landscape Management, Irrigation, Enhancement/Construction, and administrative departments to successfully achieve common operational goals and administrative compliance. When necessary, efficiently respond to Area Manager or client requests.

 

Detailed Responsibilities - Safety:

 

  • Support and communicate our company’s commitment to safety
  • Review and understanding company safety policies and procedures
  • Enforce all safety rules in a fair, consistent manner
  • Provide appropriate safety training to employees before they begin their duties
  • Ensure that employees are properly trained and certified before operating vehicles or equipment
  • Document attendance at all safety meetings
  • Regularly inspect vehicles, equipment, and job sites to identify potential unsafe conditions and work practices
  • Ensure that workers use appropriate PPE as required
  • Promptly investigate and record all accidents, on-the-job injuries or illnesses, near misses, and reports of hazards

 

 

 

Detailed Responsibilities:

 

  • Management and supervision of 2-3 T&O Technicians.
  • Manage workload and coordinate work with Area Managers and other divisions.
  • Review & Develop annual turf agronomic plan
  • Ensure assigned technicians daily work schedule runs safely and is completed in an efficient manner.
  • Ensure monthly inventory allocations are complete to complete monthly close process.
  • Perform work for assigned accounts on budget and within ELM quality standards.
  • Ensure trucks and equipment are maintained and secured while on job sites.
  • Provide strategic recommendations for added value work to current client base/area managers.
  • Development, recruiting, training, and retention of technicians.
  • Diagnose and recommend solutions to turf and ornamental problems.
  • Complete required DEEP & DEC Daily reports
  • Prepare and maintain all government required records and reports in an accurate and timely manner. Ensure the annual government report is submitted prior to January 31.
  • Train team members on safety rules and regulations, equipment operation, equipment maintenance and best practices in accordance with company procedures.
  • Maintain consistent training schedule
  • Recommend solutions of any quality concerns to management team to ensure consistent quality levels.
  • Develop all proposals for work outside of the contract & client requests within a timely manner.

 

Administrative Compliance

 

  • Complete accurate time keeping of technicians and submit to Payroll daily
  • Obtain Purchase Order information and file with Administration
  • Fill out accident reports as necessary
  • Fill out disciplinary action forms, hiring orientation forms, and other HR forms as necessary
  • Manage site quality forms

Certificates/Licenses:

 

  • Valid driver’s license – Must meet insurance underwriting requirements.
  • CT DEEP 3A Supervisory License

 

Education: A. S. degree in horticulture or related field, High School Diploma or Equivalent and minimum of 5 yr. experience in a similar position

 

Experience: Prior turf & ornamental work experience required.
