Position Overview
Audubon International seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Program Specialist to support our certification and conservation programs through member service, technical review, program coordination, and outreach. This role is central to helping our members achieve and maintain environmental certifications, and to advancing Audubon International’s mission of practical environmental improvement.
This is a full-time, location independent position.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate day-to-day administration of environmental certification and conservation programs, ensuring accurate recordkeeping, timely communications, and smooth workflow.
- Guide members and applicants through certification requirements, timelines, documentation standards, and best practices to help them meet program goals.
- Review environmental plans, certification materials, and member submissions for completeness and alignment with program standards.
- Provide technical assistance on habitat management, water conservation, water quality, chemical use reduction and safety, waste reduction, and sustainable operations.
- Maintain and update records, track milestones, manage databases, and support internal and external reporting.
- Travel to conduct site visits, support on-site assessments, and engage directly with program participants across our membership base (approximately 50% travel expected).
- Assist with the development of educational resources, member outreach, webinars, case studies, recertification processes, and recognition activities.
- Collaborate with internal staff to identify opportunities to improve program delivery, member experience, and conservation outcomes.
Work Environment and Location
This position offers flexibility to work from anywhere and is therefore location independent. Candidates located outside the Troy, NY area are encouraged to apply.
This role requires approximately 50% travel, including regular regional site visits to member properties, attendance at industry conferences, and engagement with program participants. A valid driver’s license is required.

Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, natural resources, sustainability, ecology, planning, landscape architecture, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
• One to three years of relevant experience in environmental programs, sustainability initiatives, conservation work, certification administration, nonprofit program support, or land management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical environmental concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to manage multiple member accounts and competing deadlines simultaneously.
• Working knowledge of environmental stewardship practices and comfort using Microsoft Office Suite, databases, spreadsheets, and virtual meeting platforms.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel approximately 50% of the time, including regional site visits and occasional conferences or events.
• Genuine commitment to Audubon International’s mission and a passion for practical, measurable environmental improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with environmental certification programs, sustainability reporting, nonprofit member services, or providing technical assistance to organizations or landowners.
• Familiarity with golf course operations, community sustainability, or managed landscape conservation.
• Experience developing educational materials, training resources, member newsletters, case studies, or webinars.
• Knowledge of GIS platforms, environmental assessment tools, or data visualization techniques.
• Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups, including land managers, community association managers, and municipal staff.
Salary Range
From $45,000 to $50,000 per year
