Old Mine Club is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Equipment Manager to lead its equipment operation. The club’s golf portfolio includes The Cage, a 15-hole short course completed in summer 2026 and scheduled to open in Fall 2026, a private 9-hole owner’s course, and The Canary, a new 18-hole golf course and maintenance facility currently under development in Malakoff, Texas.

Reporting to the Golf Course Superintendent, Seth Smith, the Equipment Manager will take ownership of the equipment operation, establish maintenance and shop systems, help shape the new maintenance facility, and build a strong technician team. This is an opportunity to build an equipment program from the ground up while playing a meaningful role in the development of a new private golf operation.

CLUB HIGHLIGHTS

  • Maintenance Facility: The team is currently operating out of a functional, established maintenance facility while plans are underway for a new, purpose-built facility.
  • Total annual rounds: Expected 12,000
  • Total staff: 31 once fully staffed
  • Typical work schedule: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., with flexibility required during grow-in, development, and future tournaments
  • Turf types: Tif3D greens, Lazer Zoysia approaches, Stadium Zoysia fairways
  • Future projects: New 18-hole golf course and new maintenance facility
  • Irrigation system: Rain Bird I/C

The successful candidate will be a strong team player who understands that the equipment operation is an integral part of the larger golf course maintenance team.

The club is not simply looking for the best mechanic in the room. Technical ability is important, but character, leadership, adaptability, communication, and the ability to work collaboratively are equally important to the success of this position.

INITIAL PRIORITIES OF POSITION

  • Take ownership of the equipment operation and establish a strong foundation for the future.
  • Develop and implement consistent preventive maintenance and equipment-readiness systems.
  • Support the day-to-day equipment needs of the developing golf course operation.
  • Establish organized systems for parts inventory, equipment records, service schedules, and shop operations.
  • Help develop and implement standards for a clean, safe, organized, and professional equipment shop.
  • Provide input into the design, layout, organization, and functionality of the new maintenance facility.
  • Build strong working relationships with the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, Facilities Director, and maintenance team.
  • Help establish a technician development plan as the equipment team grows.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND APTITUDE
  • Lead the daily operation of the equipment maintenance shop.
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive preventive maintenance program.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain golf course equipment, including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, sprayers, aerifiers, and specialty equipment.
  • Perform and oversee diesel, gasoline, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical repairs.
  • Oversee reel and bedknife grinding, cutting-unit setup, sharpening, and adjustments.
  • Establish daily equipment inspection and readiness procedures.
  • Maintain accurate equipment service records and repair histories.
  • Manage parts inventory, ordering, receiving, and shop supplies.
  • Supervise, train, and develop equipment technicians.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and professional shop environment.
  • Work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents to prioritize equipment needs and minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Director on equipment, shop, and facility-related needs.
  • Assist with equipment specifications, purchasing, delivery, setup, and commissioning.
  • Develop equipment replacement recommendations based on condition, reliability, utilization, and lifecycle costs.
  • Maintain strong relationships with equipment dealers, manufacturers, and service providers.
  • Manage equipment maintenance expenditures within the approved budget.
  • Stay current with new equipment, technology, and maintenance practices.
  • Support future capital planning and long-term fleet strategy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 4–7+ years of relevant equipment maintenance experience, preferably within golf course maintenance or a closely related environment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical repair.
  • Demonstrated diagnostic and troubleshooting ability.
  • Experience with reel and bedknife grinding, cutting-unit setup, and sharpening.
  • Welding and fabrication experience preferred.
  • Technical education, certifications, or other formal training in a related field preferred but not required.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience supervising, training, or developing technicians.
  • Comfortable using computerized equipment records and maintenance tracking systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments and leadership team members.

The club is developing an 18-hole golf course and new maintenance facility with a focus on creating a premier golf experience supported by a collaborative, high-performing maintenance team.
