Job Details

Tehama Golf Club is a private club located in the hills above Carmel, California. Our 18-hole golf course is maintained to a high standard and integrated into the natural landscape of the Tehama community.

Tehama is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Equipment Manager to oversee all aspects of our golf course equipment operation. This is a key leadership position within our maintenance department, with responsibility for maintaining a modern, well-maintained fleet and supporting a 20-person full-time maintenance team.

The Equipment Manager will work directly with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent and will supervise an Assistant Equipment Manager.

Position Summary

The Equipment Manager will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, adjustment, and overall readiness of all golf course equipment. The successful candidate will take ownership of the equipment program, emphasizing preventative maintenance, reliability, organization, and long-term equipment care.

Tehama primarily utilizes Toro equipment, with the majority of our fleet on a four-year lease program. As a result, our leased equipment is less than four years old.

Our equipment shop is particularly unique. Located underground and designed similarly to an underground parking garage, the shop provides excellent protection from the elements and allows our equipment to remain in exceptional condition.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance program.
  • Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
  • Maintain and service Toro mowing equipment, tractors, utility vehicles, sprayers, aerification equipment, and other turf equipment.
  • Perform reel and bedknife grinding and cutting-unit setup.
  • Maintain accurate equipment service records and repair histories.
  • Manage parts, supplies, tools, and equipment inventory.
  • Coordinate warranty work and outside repairs with Toro and other vendors.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe equipment shop.
  • Work closely with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent to prioritize repairs and equipment needs.
  • Assist with equipment budgeting, replacement planning, purchasing, and evaluation.
  • Train and develop the Assistant Equipment Manager and maintenance staff in proper equipment operation and preventative maintenance.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, cleanliness, and pride in the equipment operation.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Several years of professional experience maintaining turf, agricultural, heavy, automotive, or related equipment.
  • Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills.
  • Working knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ability to independently diagnose problems and determine appropriate repairs.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience as an Equipment Manager, Assistant Equipment Manager, or Lead Technician at a golf course or private club.
  • Experience with Toro turf equipment.
  • Reel and bedknife grinding experience.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Experience with electronic diagnostics and modern turf equipment systems.
  • Technical education, OEM training, or industry certifications.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an equipment professional who takes pride in ownership, preventative maintenance, organization, and equipment reliability. The ideal candidate will be proactive, mechanically skilled, and capable of managing the equipment operation with a high degree of independence while communicating effectively with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.
