Golf Course Equipment Manager
Oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance and repair program for our entire fleet of golf course turf maintenance assets.
Reporting directly to the Golf Course Superintendent, the person in this vital position ensures all machinery—valued at over $1.3 is safe and properly maintained.
The ideal candidate is a highly skilled turf mechanic who treats shop management as a professional discipline and takes pride in a clean, organized, and high-performing workplace.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Equipment Maintenance & Calibration
- Reel & Cutting Unit Technology: Grind, sharpen, and precision-adjust reel mowers and bedknives daily to ensure pristine turf quality.
- Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical issues across a diverse fleet, including diesel/gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, and advanced electrical setups.
- Preventive Maintenance: Implement, track, and execute a comprehensive preventive maintenance schedule for all mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, sprayers, and small handheld power tools.
Shop Management
- Inventory & Purchasing: Oversee the procurement of parts, lubricants, and supplies while maintaining a highly organized and cost-controlled parts inventory.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed service records, tracking work orders, parts inventory and maintenance schedules for every piece of equipment.
- Facility Oversight: Implement Total Shop Management, keeping the maintenance facility, chemical storage, fuel stations, and equipment wash areas clean, safe, and compliant with state and federal safety and environmental regulations.
Team Leadership & Safety
- Staff Training: Work with the superintendent and department supervisors to educate the grounds crew on the proper, safe operation of machinery and basic daily equipment checks (e.g., checking oil and coolant levels before leaving the shop).
- Supervision: Direct the daily work assignments of the assistant equipment technician.
- Field Collaboration: Work side-by-side with agronomic leadership to prioritize daily equipment needs and occasionally assist with course setup or field operations during peak on-course activity.

Experience & Technical Skills
• Equipment R&M Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as an equipment mechanic, preferably within a golf course or sports turf maintenance facility.
• Specialized Knowledge: Proven proficiency in grinding reels, troubleshooting heavy hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Welding: Proficient in metal fabrication and welding techniques (highly preferred).
• Tools: Ownership of a basic set of mechanical tools required to perform standard daily repairs.
• Detail-oriented, highly organized mindset with excellent time-management skills.
* Must have basic computer skills - emailing, creating and keeping files, basic spreadsheet knowledge and ability to learn equipment tracking and R&M programs.

Physical Requirements & General Traits
• Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and spend extended periods standing, bending, and working in various weather environments.
• Ability to work flexible, early morning shifts (often starting between 4:30 AM and 5:30 AM), including weekend tournament rotations.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
