Hollytree Country Club is seeking an experienced, passionate, and results-driven Golf Course Superintendent to lead all aspects of golf course maintenance and agronomic operations. The Golf Course Superintendent will be responsible for delivering exceptional course conditions through sound agronomic practices, effective leadership, budget management, and strategic planning.
Position Summary
The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall maintenance, presentation, and long-term health of the golf course, practice facilities, clubhouse grounds, and landscaped areas. The successful candidate will lead the maintenance team, oversee agronomic programs, manage equipment and irrigation operations, and work closely with club leadership to provide an exceptional golf experience for the membership.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee all golf course maintenance operations, including greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, practice facilities, and ornamental landscapes.
- Develop and implement comprehensive agronomic programs, including fertility, pest management, cultural practices, irrigation scheduling, and water conservation.
- Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise the golf course maintenance team while fostering a positive, safety-focused work environment.
- Prepare and manage annual operating and capital budgets while maintaining strong cost controls.
- Develop preventative maintenance programs for equipment in coordination with the Equipment Manager.
- Oversee irrigation system maintenance, repairs, scheduling, and water management strategies.
- Monitor course conditions daily and implement improvements that enhance playability, consistency, and aesthetics.
- Plan and execute aerification, topdressing, overseeding (when applicable), and other cultural practices.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records for chemical applications, fertilizer use, irrigation, labor, and equipment maintenance.
- Work collaboratively with the General Manager, Golf Professional, and club leadership to coordinate tournaments, member events, and daily operations.
- Communicate regularly with club leadership regarding course conditions, maintenance schedules, and long-term improvement projects.
Qualifications
- Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of five years of golf course maintenance experience, including leadership or superintendent-level responsibilities preferred.
- Strong knowledge of warm-season turfgrass management, irrigation systems, fertilizers, pesticides, and modern agronomic practices.
- Texas pesticide applicator license or the ability to obtain one promptly.
- Proven leadership and team development skills.
- Strong budgeting, planning, and organizational abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to operate golf course maintenance equipment and oversee fleet management.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience maintaining private country club golf courses.
- Knowledge of USGA putting green management and tournament preparation.
- Experience managing capital improvement projects.
- Familiarity with Toro, Rain Bird, or similar irrigation systems.
- GCSAA membership and industry certifications are preferred.
