Elba Country Club is seeking a dependable, knowledgeable, hands-on greenskeeper to lead daily golf course maintenance. Established in 1964, our nine-hole, par-36 course has Bermuda grass greens, tees, and fairways and a long history within the Elba community.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in course conditions, recognizes what needs attention, and follows through. This is a working position requiring active participation in daily maintenance, sound judgment, and the ability to organize work independently.

As a small club with a limited maintenance budget and staff, we value resourcefulness, practical planning, and attention to the fundamentals. Our priorities are healthy turf, consistent and enjoyable playing conditions, dependable maintenance routines, and steady improvement.

The successful candidate will respect the course’s established character and make use of its maintenance history while bringing ideas that fit the club’s needs and resources.

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform daily maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and surrounding grounds.

• Establish and follow seasonal schedules for mowing, fertilization, weed control, aerification, topdressing, and other necessary turf practices.

• Monitor turf health and moisture conditions, address irrigation problems, and provide supplemental watering when needed.

• Identify developing problems early and take timely action.

• Operate equipment safely, perform routine preventive maintenance, and coordinate repairs.

• Organize available maintenance help and use labor, supplies, and equipment efficiently.

• Maintain records of applications, maintenance activities, equipment service, and expenses.

• Communicate regularly with the board about course conditions, priorities, purchases, and repair needs.

• Coordinate maintenance around member play, tournaments, and weather conditions.

Qualifications and Expectations

• Relevant golf course maintenance experience, including experience maintaining Bermuda grass greens.

• Working knowledge of irrigation, turf equipment, seasonal turf care, and weed and pest management.

• Ability to establish priorities, solve routine problems independently, and complete work reliably.

• Willingness to perform the physical, outdoor work required by the position.

• Professional communication and a cooperative approach to working with club leadership and members.

• Appropriate pesticide applicator credentials, or willingness and ability to obtain those required for assigned duties.

• Availability for early mornings, weekend responsibilities, and weather-related needs.

Formal turfgrass education is welcome. Practical experience, a strong work ethic, and demonstrated ability to care for a course are highly valued.

Compensation and Benefits

$40,000-$60,000 Based on experience.
