The Country Club of Ocala, a Heritage Golf Group property, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Golf Course Superintendent to lead all aspects of golf course maintenance and agronomic operations.

Founded in 1994, the Country Club of Ocala is a premier private club featuring an acclaimed 18-hole championship golf course designed by Steve Nugent. The course winds through Central Florida’s rolling terrain, mature oaks, hardwoods, and natural water features. It has hosted FSGA Championships, USGA Qualifiers, and North Florida PGA events.

Position Summary

The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the maintenance, conditioning, and presentation of the golf course, practice facilities, clubhouse grounds, landscaping, and related equipment. This position develops and implements agronomic programs, manages departmental personnel and financial resources, and works closely with club leadership to achieve short- and long-term course objectives.

The Superintendent reports to the General Manager and works collaboratively with Heritage Golf Group’s senior agronomy leadership.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily maintenance, conditioning, and presentation of the golf course, practice facilities, clubhouse grounds, landscaping, and surrounding property.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive agronomic programs appropriate for Central Florida turfgrass and growing conditions.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, motivate, and evaluate the golf course maintenance team.
  • Establish clear performance expectations while creating a positive, accountable, and safety-focused workplace.
  • Develop and manage the annual operating and capital budgets, monitor departmental performance, and implement corrective measures when necessary.
  • Maintain the course in excellent playing condition while balancing member expectations, environmental stewardship, available resources, and sound agronomic practices.
  • Regularly inspect the golf course and grounds to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop short- and long-range plans for course maintenance, infrastructure improvements, renovations, and capital needs.
  • Oversee turf care, fertilization, plant health, landscaping, tree management, drainage, and irrigation programs.
  • Manage the operation and maintenance of irrigation systems, pump stations, water lines, and related infrastructure.
  • Supervise the equipment repair operation and ensure that equipment is properly maintained, secured, and inventoried.
  • Ensure fertilizers, pesticides, petroleum products, and other controlled materials are stored, applied, documented, and disposed of in accordance with all applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records related to chemical and fertilizer applications, water usage, labor, equipment maintenance, purchasing, and departmental activities.
  • Implement and enforce comprehensive safety, HAZCOM, and employee-training programs.
  • Coordinate golf course maintenance activities with the General Manager and golf operations team, including tournament preparation, scheduled maintenance, and course closures.
  • Communicate course conditions, maintenance programs, and upcoming projects clearly and professionally to club leadership, employees, members, and applicable committees.
  • Manage outside contractors and oversee approved construction, renovation, and improvement projects.
  • Stay current on agronomic research, regulatory requirements, technology, equipment, and industry best practices.
  • Perform other appropriate responsibilities assigned by the General Manager.

Job Requirements

Experience Requirements
Progressive golf course maintenance experience, including successful experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
Strong knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation, drainage, fertilization, pest management, equipment maintenance, and golf course construction practices.
Experience managing warm-season turf and Central Florida growing conditions is highly desirable.
Demonstrated success leading, developing, and retaining a high-performing maintenance team.
Strong financial management skills, including operating-budget development, labor management, purchasing, forecasting, and capital planning.
Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing golf course operations and chemical applications.
Ability to evaluate course conditions, establish priorities, solve problems, and make sound operational decisions.
Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
Understanding of the game of golf and how maintenance practices affect course playability and the member experience.
GCSAA membership and Class A designation preferred.
Florida pesticide applicator license or the ability to obtain the required license within an established timeframe.
Valid driver’s license.
Educational Requirements
Degree or certificate in agronomy, turfgrass management, horticulture, plant science, or a related field preferred.
Special Requirements
Physical Requirements and Work Environment

This position regularly works outdoors and may be exposed to heat, humidity, rain, chemicals, airborne particles, moving mechanical equipment, vibration, and moderate-to-loud noise. The role requires the ability to perform physical activities customary to golf course maintenance, including lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, walking, and pulling. Early mornings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours may be required based on weather, course conditions, and the club’s event schedule.

Salary Range

From $110,000 to $125,000 per year
